I've been running the Stealth 2 Quadzilla on my truck since 2500 miles, and I'm getting ready to turn 40k. I have a 48' enclosed trailer that I pull once every few months, and I'm trying to figure out the max level I should run while towing. The trailer weight will normally be in the 15-17000 lb. range, depending on the cars I have in it. I have always towed on level 1 because I don't want to risk hurting anything with such a big load. The truck definitely doesn't pull as well as my past Duramaxes (had an '03, '05 dually, and '06), but I ran an Edge on all of my previous trucks. I pulled a 48' trailer with the same weight with all of those trucks, and I always towed on level 1 with the Edge. None of my previous trucks had an issue towing, and they rarely had to downshift. My '08 grabs a gear if I look at it wrong, and I always tow in 5th gear. Setting my cruise with this truck isn't really an option unless I'm on flat ground.

Any personal experiences with towing heavy loads on level 2 (50 HP) with a Quadzilla? I'd like more power when pulling, but I don't want to risk hurting anything. FYI, I'm running a downpipe-back system with the DPF removed. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

better off leaveing it stock if you dont have gauges:) more power towing isnt always better more power=more stress on truck towing when i pull 12,000 I just leave it on 50 but I know the truck gets real hot just by the way it starts actn I dont have gauges, so Im not gona test my luck on a higher level;)

Quadzilla techs says towing with 50 hp tune is ok, but I would suggest "NOT" going there.
Stick with the Economy tune, get gauges something like Edge Insight is pretty slick.

Monitor the most important, EGT`s and what ever else your heart desires.
My advice on EGT`s is to stay below 1300 degrees just to be safe.

With any tuner you can go above what is safe real easy, this is why it is a must to have gauges.

My opinion towing is always use manual and never above 5th gear, never below 1800 on flats and 2200-3000 grades, 3200 tops.

I always towed with the Quad set on Econ setting, felt it spooled up better than stock. Never an issue with it on that setting. I also did not have any gauges, which after an experience with the 50hp (towed one time) setting I wish I had. My temps went up (stock needle temp gauge sucks!), fan came on, temps went right back down, but never towed over Econ again. Sometimes I kept in stock due to having no gauges. Now with the Edge Evo Race being able to see the actual engine temp is 25 degrees cooler than what the needle gauge shows is a little easier on the nerves. But I'd stay econ or stock, plenty of power, don't have to worry about EGT's, which can get up there quick, no gauges, stay away from higher tunes towing. In level 3 race tune I can get the EGT's up to 1400 degrees real easy (empty), couldn't imagine what they were with the Quad towing. Chris

definately get gauges. you'd be suprised how fast that diesel can get dangerously hot under load. these tuners throw more fuel at the truck, which in turn makes more power. unfortunately, more power comes with more heat, and if it gets too hot, you'll have a problem to say the least.

Been towing for 18 months (not constantly :)) on the +50. No problems at all.

With EGT already being down 200 from stock, without the DPF, I don't see any trouble with it.

I have even thought of trying the +70, but I only tow 9000lbs or so PLUS the truck and people in it. So, I am probably, what?, 17-18000 total?

Thanks for all of the responses. I'm going to play it safe and keep it on Econ when towing. The truck has been great for reliability to this point, and I don't want to risk that. The truck still pulls okay, it's just not quite as good as my previous Dmaxes. I'm definitely going to add some guages!
