: Lb7 Predator custom tuning?
mannytranny 05-10-2005, 08:33 PM Howdy
Does anyone here (besides diablo Sport) know of a way to get a custom tune on a predator?
I had DS make a pretty weak ~40 hp tune. I would have liked something about 65 horse, but they couldnt figure out how to make it a smooth tune. Apparently theyve never had a 6 speed truck down for testing.........
Anyway, I recently had an encounter with one of the Mitsu Eclipses (pry the fastest one) and I was unable to get around him. I kept right on his ass until about 95, but by then I was about double the speed limit (not to mention bald tires), so I let up.....Would have been nice to have just a tad more go.
Anyone have any ideas?
Im all set up comupter wise to up/download the custom programs, so does anyone here know how to make a decent tune?
If not, Ive been looking for a VA Type E, as I hear those work real nice for a 6 speed truck.............

JhnZ71 05-10-2005, 09:58 PM Umm... banks six gun tuner would do it for you. Some stupid kid in a Toyota Supra started chucking revs and me and i filled up his tiny little ricer with diesel smoke. I wish i had Kiss my a$$ painted on my tailgate.
mannytranny 05-10-2005, 10:03 PM Ya, but thats like 600 bucks......Im looking for something under 300, or a custom tune........
03LB-7dmax 05-10-2005, 10:27 PM MannyTranny. I have had one done.Email. Johan@diablosport Tell him what you want and he will do it.

Do you get any vibrations from your flywheel when you run your predator?? Mine isn't too bad on the 40, but the 65 and 85 will vibrate ya out of the cab if you start getting on it from a low RPM in 4,5, and 6. Just wondering if that was what you were referring to when you were talking about making it smooth.
Later!

mannytranny 05-11-2005, 01:37 AM I havent put more than 50 miles on it running the hotter tunes. I didnt notice any vibrations.
The tuning just sucks. It goes from making a little power to a LOT of power in a split second. Like someone flips a switch. Very annoying. So Im stuck paying for a 125 hp programmer that I can only get 40 horse out of.........
MaxRock 05-11-2005, 10:39 AM manny,
Does the switch flip at 1800-2000 RPMs? I borrowed a buddy's Quad and it would take off at 1800-2000. Just at the point that I typically shift...start letting off of the throttle and the engine would take off. Feels like the engine is starting to run away.
I ran the 70, 90 and 110 tune. The clutch and flywheel did great. I pulled my 33' 5er on 90 and no problems...just the lurching at 1800...

mannytranny 05-11-2005, 10:41 AM Thats it. I HATE that stupid surge.
That cannot be the way it is with all tuners?!?!
JhnZ71 05-11-2005, 10:42 AM Yeah, doesnt your diablo have an 85 hp tune as well. I have a predator that doesnt work, just use it for codes
mannytranny 05-11-2005, 10:49 AM I had it, but when you have them make a custom tune, you dont have the ability to upload anything but that one tune.
I bought the predator when it first came out, so I have seen all the revisions. The first version was real good for all power levels. All were smooth. The next versions ran a tad cooler, and didnt throw any SES codes, but they had the surge.........
Anyone tried a VA type E on the 6 speed? Any surge at all?
dbloyd 05-11-2005, 11:00 AM i had one encounter with one of those eclipse's one day on the expressway.
i did a roll on with him at 55mph and he let off at 85 when i began to pull away.
then i let off at 90. must have been embaresing for him to have a crew cab
pulling a trailor with a tractor on it, to put him down like that.
J-HEFF 05-11-2005, 06:38 PM I've been pretty happy with my predator, I don't feel any of the surging you guys are getting. I feel the power coming on strong, but every chipped truck i've driven has been this way, edge, hypertech, ect. The thing that drives me crazy is all the vibration I get from the flywheel when I start putting power to it. My friend with an 04 cummins and edge has a six speed that does the exact same thing, but he's only got like 35,000 miles.
MaxRock 05-11-2005, 06:42 PM manny,
I am also looking at the VA tuner. Maybe John Kennedy will chime in on his thoughts of the VA behind a ZF.

mannytranny 05-11-2005, 07:19 PM The opportunity has risen for me to do a little trial run on a VA-E. Not sure the power rating just yet, but if it works out, ill give you all a rundown.
IIRC the E is the timing box, and the D is the pressure box. Timing is better, I think.....
About a year ago I was asking around who had what on their 6 speeds, and the answers always seemed to come back that the VA-E was the smoothest one.
Im not really looking for mega power (Ide be running on 70 horse) but rather good economy, no smoke, and a smooth power curve.
Isntthe VA-E one of the best boxes for economy?
MaxRock 05-12-2005, 10:18 AM manny,
Looking forward to your review of the VA-E...enquiring minds want to know!!! I believe you are correct in assuming the D was pressure and the E is timing.
