: Daily Driver?

Ok. I'm new to Diesels, but I've been on here reading up on them before I go out and buy one. I was thinking 4x4 CC SRW, but after reading a little today on the Dually side, I'm wondering if a DRW is what I want. For the most part, the truck would be a daily driver (commuting to work. avg 45-55mph for 23 miles with a few stop lights), with the exception of probably pulling a decent sized 5th Wheel for family vacations. Planning on hopefully doing some cross-country trips like to Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Maine, Florida,....
My question is what could I expect from a DRW compared to a SRW on daily driving? How good would mileage be? I also read that someone said they aren't that great in the snow? Is this true? I'm in West MI and get quite a bit of snow. Any other input would be great!
Thanks for your help!

They make fine daily drivers. I get 14-18mpg around town depending on what mix of roads. As far as how they are in snow, I plow with mine no issues. Just have to be careful as with any vehicle in snow. :)

Can't comment on the snow (Texas), but I can say that my dually worked well as a daily, even in tight-turned, traffic-packed Dallas.

Mileage...depends on modifications.

I must say as far as a daily driver its great. Im here in SoCal and I have no problems at all. With all the Traffic that we get there is no problem at all...

if you get the elephant ear tow mirrors, they are wider then the dually. Both my trucks have them, other then the lb being harder for my wife to park, they are pretty much the same. tire cost is 50% higher, mileage is maybe 1 or 2 mpg lower, if you aie the tires to sidewall max for mileage, the ride is stiffer (4 vs 2 tires). Wouldn't trade it for a srw.

I LOOOVE my dually - ESPECIALLY towing!
It is also my daily driver, and I have NO problems maneuvering through traffic or side streets/2 lane back roads...
Get it, don't look back - if you SRW in a high wind area you'll be wondering why you didn't just get the dually...

Ok, I've been reading around and it seems like the DRW gets quite a bit less mpg than a SRW. Stock for stock, what's the difference do you think? Also, seems like mpg is all over the place. Is that just because different terrain and people with different tuners? What could I expect to see stock?
Also, another dumb question. Is there SB AND LB DRW?
Thanks again.

As you can see from my sig, I have both, and my dually gets just about the same mileage unloaded on the freeway as my 2500. And, my dually is my daily driver.

As far as a short bed option, I don't think that is offered anymore, my shop neighbor several years back had a '96 CC DRW short bed.

I live in upstate NY and my dually is not as good in snow as my 1500 was. I do miss the Auto 4WD mode on my 3500. I put about 700#`s of termite block in my bed and it is better. The dual wheels tend to float on the snow.

Daily driving isn't bad, the ride isn't any different than a single rear wheel truck... that is, until you tow of course. The only time it's really a pain is when you need to drive to a big city. We had problems driving downtown Chicago. It's not that you can't, it's just difficult. Driving in the snow is actually easier, as you have more tires and weight on the tires to dig into the snow.
