Both of the boots on my outer tie rods are cracked nearly all the way around. Not sure what they look like inside. I have a extended warranty through Chevy (to 60K) but not sure if that is a covered item. Truck has 50K on it currently.

Question 1: Can I replace just the boots or do I have to replace the entire tie rod?

Question 2: Should this be a covered item under warranty, and are there any key words to use which would increase the chances of them being covered?

Not sure if you have to remove the entire assembly, would probably make sense just to replace the whole thing.

With 285s I don't see a warranty replacement in your future, maybe you will get lucky though.

Replace the whole outer assembly, it will come with a new boot.
