The company I own part of goes through about 6000 gallons of diesel every two months. There are alot of equipment problems when the tanks get low and I have to constantly change fuel filters in the 5 duramaxes we run. I am getting ready to order Nicktane kits or maybe a few Fass kits for the trucks but I was wondering what a good cost effective addative for the big tanks at work that would help out with all the equipment. It pretty much never gets below 40 degrees here in south texas so there is no winterized fuel. What addative should I use and who should I get it from. I try and keep the tanks clean and the filters on the tanks fresh.

Hi--Try to find someone in your area who sells Amsoil--use there diesel fuel additive--it will improve the performance of any motor you use it in!! It will reduce black smoke-deposits-emissions and injector wear!! It basically keeps your fuel system clean. 16 oz. treats a 100 gallons. I've used this for a number of years with Great success!! Give it a try!! Good luck!!

Well, if it were me personally i would try to fix the problem at the tank. I am sure you run some type of filtration out of the tanks, but if you would just increase the filtration from the tanks it may save you some trouble of dealing with filters on many different vehicles.

It sounds to me like you need to run your tank(s) empty, & give them a good flush. I just ran my off-road diesel tank empty last month & tried to flush it out the best I could. It's amazing how much crud settles into the bottom of a diesel storage tank over time. Awhile back, I read an article in a farm magazine about how dirty diesel storage tanks get & how many equipment problems they cause. All the tanks they tested around the country were bad, but Texas was the worst because of the dusty conditions. As you're pumping out the fuel, you're drawing in dust & moisture, so a tank breather desicant filter might be a good investment for you. Des-case & Avlube are two companies I can think of off hand that sell them. Something else to think of is running twin filters on your pumps. I run a 10-micron hydrosorb & a 2-micron final filter on my pumps.
I also wonder if you might have bacteria growing in your tanks, but that's usually pretty easy to figure out. I had that happen once, & it would plug a new primary fuel filter in minutes. A biocide cleared it right up, though.
Good luck.

dag4566, maintained fuel farm years back, had 5000 gl diesel tank, your turn around is pretty good, but you do get crud like metioned. i had water accumulate change from open vent to one that had disc to control air moving freely in and out (opens when pumping though) and setup a racor filter buggy with 2 fm1000 filters and pumps selfcontained unit(roll around or stationary). used 2 30 micron filters. took off bottom of tank(bottom drain) to catch water and such. drained water off after settling first then hooked up unit on handtruck, cleaned up fuel. unit had at that time hose to pull oil from crankcase and mix with fuel(never used). i used unit on different equipment, towable generators, ground power units put suct. hose in far and disch. at fill and recirc tank. started having less problems after lot of work 20 pcs of gear. use diesel biocide(PS diesel kleen) to kill and help remove dead bugs. does your system have filter coming from tank if not or gravity, you could use filter buggy to fill trucks and know what fuel looks like and that its clean going in, good luck.

I'd get ahold of George at avlube.com and see if there is a Primrose product that would suit your needs.
