: Bent / Busted Tie Rod Pics Wanted
Wasted Income 05-10-2005, 04:20 PM Does anyone have photos (somewhat detailed) of their bent or busted stock tierods? I'm curious to see what kind of carnage I'm in for if I don't upgrade to sleeves...-:t
I'm just wondering where they bend most often so I can keep an eye on that section for any obvious distortion or anything like that.
Thanks!
Jeff

McRat 05-10-2005, 10:35 PM I wonder...
Put a heavy trailer on, remove the front tire that has the broken tierod. Could you make it home on 3 wheels? ;)
noreaster 05-10-2005, 10:40 PM :funnypost only you would think of that
JhnZ71 05-10-2005, 10:51 PM wow that is really really bent, what the heck did you hit?

My stomach hit my left foot when I had no steering and truck kept sliding to the right. Then I hit myself in the head for being so stupid.:o: I was showing off at jobsite, fresh pavement, 2200 rpms in 4 lo, and more than enough boost. 4wheel launches, GET THE SLEEVES FIRST.

Super Diesel. On this forum. do a search for tie rod sleeves and youu will find some pics.
moss022 05-11-2005, 07:13 PM i seen something like that happen to a guy pulling a seld. he ended up going to his left kinda hard and then hit the brakes. then he had a dent in his bumper from the seld. i see a lot of chevys doing that too, just not breaking yet!
Super Diesel 05-11-2005, 10:35 PM By the time you see any distortion or anything, it is usually looking like the one in the pic and your stranded. Most don't risk it. Even lite 4 wheeling can bend or break them. One I know of here was pulling a trailer through a muddy field and one of the tires caught something under the muck and bent the rod. Sleeve them and forget about it.
Max Power 05-11-2005, 10:37 PM The price of the sleeves is less then the price of a new tie rod so i can't imagine why you wouldn't do it. If it saves you once, they are worth it IMO.
blnagel 05-11-2005, 11:15 PM How hard are they to install for someone like most of on here? Is it as easy as changing the oil and lubing? Thanks
Ben
Max Power 05-11-2005, 11:18 PM Pretty darn easy. I'd say its about as easy as changing a tire. :D
Pure Diesel 05-11-2005, 11:44 PM It took me 35 minutes with clean up and 1-miller lite. Very easy to do.

Ahh, thats a good idea conserve water and use Miller Lite to clean it up instead. It's what I use to rinse my beer glasses out with too.):h

Back to the sleeve post, to remove the tie rod end do you use a ball joint fork or some other method like a puller, neither of which I have:(
supatrucka 05-12-2005, 08:41 AM Do you have to get the truck lined up after the install. dave
