my 02 has 6.5" and tweeters in the front doors as did the 99 i had so i would assume yours does too. when the light hits the speaker grill just right you can see through it and see the tweeter.

Actually I think it depends on the stereo system you have. I believe only the higher end factory systems came with the tweeters installed. The wiring is all there but the speakers are not. Somebody jump in if I'm wrong on this. I know for a fact that's the way it is on the C/K series trucks.

i got the subs behind the rear seat and the amps are under the rear seat. ive taken the pics but havent had time to post them yet, will do soon. As far as what Burnin Mad Max said i think you have to have at least an LS to get the tweeters. also powderking, if you put the component set in your truck you will need an amp, you wont be happy without one. with my 40 watt x 4 alpine on the factory stuff it sounds way better than without.

I have 6.5' infinity components, they sound great the stock tweeters are junk. I reccomend replacing them.

For starters, the speaker systems on the 2001-2002's were just plain awful-:t The "amplifier" that sat up behind the glove box provided probably 10 watts per channel at best and the "tweeters" in the doors did not even get a cross-over. They were just wired in parallel with the main speakers! And all of this was on the "premium uplevel" audio!! (RPO UQ3 i think..maybe its UQ5...i forget which is the "premium uplevel" and which is the absolute base audio). At least in 2003 they gave us the Bose option (UQ7)... Its probably best to go with a set of 6.5" components and a small aftermarket amplifier. The components will give you the proper crossovers and tweeters and everything! that should certainly be a good upgrade from the stock audio!

Duratothemax,

There cant be an amp in my truck because the power coming from my alpine runs back through the factory wiring to the speakers. if there was an external amp my amp wouldnt work (i know from experience, did it in a friends ford) the amp kept going into protection and wouldnt play. i could be wrong on this one but from my experience there shouldnt be a factory amp. You are right on the tweeters they are wired in with the main speakers but i have to say with the amp ive got on them they sound good, crystal clear symbols in the tweeters. I know an upgraded component set is better but for now im happy with them. its all in the way you cross them over with the head unit my alpine has A LOT of crossover options.

hmmm I see what you mean...you're probably right. I know the Tahoe's and Suburban's from 2000-2002 DID have a Delco "amp" that sat up behind the glove box. I just assumed GM did the same thing for the trucks... And I dont doubt you when you say the speakers sound a lot better with your Alpine amp driving them. I know from experience that when a speaker system sounds bad, its not just the speakers' fault!! The Bose system in my truck (the Bose "Premium" amp) sounded 'alright' and I was happy with it, but when I installed my Escalade navigation/radio head unit, I also had to install the Bose "Luxury" amp (this special amp is reserved only for Escalades, Denali's and early model H2's). BOY!! what a difference just an amp change can make. It wasnt the speakers' fault at all! They sound AWESOME now with MUCH increased bass...all from just changing the Bose "premium" amp to the Bose "luxury" amp.

Sorry i confused some of you guys! I just assumed the SUV's had the same audio setup as the trucks...

So, does anyone know if the 2005 non-bose option stereo has an amp behind the glove box? If so, could I use the inputs for that amp for inputs on an aftermarket amp rather than using the hi-power output of the amp and cutting it down to a lo-power RCA plug input?

No, it does not use a Delco "amp" behind the glove box or anything...im pretty sure the "amp" is just integral to the head unit. you can use the PAC AOEM-GM24 adapter to get 4 perfectly clean (much much better than using an LOC) RCA pre-outs that are ready to be directly plugged into an aftermarket amp. It plugs into the back of the head unit and then goes into a little box and out comes 2 red and 2 white RCA plugs (front left&right, rear left&right).
