Has anyone painted the Bow Tie from the front grill to match your truck?
What paint, and how has it lasted.

I have used Krylon and clearcoat on my 90's bow tie. There was a guy on here painting them up as an American flag that was pretty cool. Auto paint would work the best. My 90's bow tie has rock chips in it already, but it plays hard.

I tried plastic paint from rust oleum but when I tried to spray some clear on it , it bubbled. I've tried this twice with the same results. Was the paint you used for plastic or just standard spray can stuff

I just took mine to the local autobody shop and they painted it to my factory code and then put 6 coats of clear on it for 12 dollars

I painted my Chevy Bow Tie using Krylon paint. I first primed it then put two very thin coatings of Blue Paint. It turned out a lot better than I thought considering I have no painting experience. After several thousand miles, I started to notice chips on it exposing the gray primer underneath. I should of used a clear coat to protect it...

You could try going to a local sign shop and see if they have some viynl that matches your truck. That way you don't have to worry about rock chips. Just a thought.

I used just the standard stuff. The reason it bubbles is a chemical reaction. IE: laquer and enamels do not mix. You should look for a gloss plastic paint or just do without the plastic paint altogether. Another idea, if you have a dark truck, is a new type of paint that they have out in the aerosol cans (you get 3 per box). The first can is like a flat black primer, the second can has the goodies in it and the third can is a clear coat and goody activator that once dried (looks like crap before it dries) changes color under different lights. If I remember correctly, red, green, blue, and purple are the colors it changes to and out of the light, just looks black. It is about $20/box and can be found at wal-mart and the like in the auto department. I used it on a softball helmet once and truned out really really nice!

I just primed and painted mine with auto paint from dupli-color that matched the truck. Sprayed same brand of clear over it. Looks good; inexpensive too.

The member that was doing them is Walter Rapp; he can be reached at www.roostfest.com (http://www.roostfest.com/) Not sure he is doing any painting at the moment though.

Had mine painted to show my support for "Our" troops in the oil war, not to show my support for the "Bone-head" running the show!!!
