: 1st time at LACR/trouble getting home
8shot 05-09-2005, 09:14 PM Had fun at LACR. Only made 2 runs. 2nd run blew fuel line of some sort. Decided to park it. Got to put a few faces on you guys. On the way home, heading to 395, slowed for a turn and I started to smell fuel big time! Had blown the fuel line again, full under side was dripping diesel. A lady in a PT Cruiser pulled in to tell me something was leaking. Fuel was dripping off her fenders. I felt bad. Got line back on and drive easy to auto parts store to get a real hose clamp. Thought I would test it again on Bear Valley Road. Stopped and then stood on it. All felt good then about 5th gear the engine light came on and would not rev over 2000 rpm. I pulled over, plugged in Predator and it said I had 2 codes: 101 (which happens from time to time) and the other code I could not figure out how to read. I cleared the codes and drive fine the rest of the way to Big Bear. I did not have the trans in the T/H mode when it shut down. Do you think this could have caused the problem? Any ideas?
McRat 05-09-2005, 09:32 PM The fuel lines before the engine are not pressurized unless you are running a lift pump or transfer pump.
Which line was leaking?
8shot 05-09-2005, 09:42 PM Short rubber hose at the rear of the driver side head on top. Looks like it is off the rear of fuel rail, maybe. Only about 4 inch long, makes a u turn. Sorry best i can describe.
McRat 05-09-2005, 09:49 PM Sounds like you're talking about a fuel return line. If it is, you need to check it to insure it has no kinks or obstructions. It is not normally under high pressure, but if it gets kinked it will be.
Max Payne 05-10-2005, 09:01 AM The fuel rail pressure relief valve is integral to the drivers side fuel rail. If enough fuel is passing thriugh to cause the line to blow off, the valve has failed. I have replaced this valve to fix chronic P1093 offenders. It works...
8shot 05-10-2005, 10:13 AM NO visable kinks. What valve, is that something that i can replace? Would rather not take to dealer, if it is something i can do. Will the 1093 code put it in limp mode? OR can there be a kink some where down steam possable?

Have you been able to replace the valve or do you have to replace the fuel rail? I tried to get a part number for the valve but could not come up with one at the local dealer.
Max Payne 05-10-2005, 12:51 PM You have to replace the whole fuel rail, the valve is not available seperately. I suspect it may be in the future, kinda like the regulators that used to be available only with the pump...
8shot 05-10-2005, 04:35 PM Any idea how much $$$. Would like to avoid dealer working on truck. Should i check any where else for kink. I did install tranfer flow tank about 7000 miles ago.
LBZ DMAX 05-10-2005, 05:34 PM What times did it run?

Finding a kink or restriction might stop the line from popping off. But if the pressure relief valve is sticking, you'll have to address it sometime. I didn't think of that. My bad.
8shot 05-10-2005, 11:20 PM I don't think line can pop off now, got some good claps on it now. With the old clamps i could pull it off with just my fingers. IF it is a valve problem, will it send codes? Times were slow 14.91
McRat 05-10-2005, 11:26 PM Just a Predator, at LACR with a full weight truck, you should see high 14's to mid 14's at 88-90mph.
14.91 is not slow at LACR. That will run door to door with a 1997 Z-28 Camaro.

Are you ready for Friday night? I sure am (reporting for camera duty!).
Decent times, 8shot. With a little more practice, I'm sure you'll be in the mid to low 14s with just the Predator (since you have the tranny done).:exactly:
McRat 05-11-2005, 06:36 AM Well, whether I'm ready or not, I'll be there.
;)
8shot 05-11-2005, 10:30 AM I know it will beat alot of cars. It sure looks slow to the 12- 13 sec. times, but not willing to do drugs (yet). About fuel prob. Should i wait for codes or get it back to stock and take it in?
McRat 05-11-2005, 11:16 AM I'd take any performance tune out of it, and bring it to a dealer, explaining the tube popped off twice, and ask them if that's normal. If they all they do is change the clamp or hose, then you need to find a real diesel mech.
McRat 05-11-2005, 11:20 AM PS - If you want to run a 13, you're going to need a more powerful tune. It takes me a PPE+VA stack to run a 13.99 at my weight, or 466HP. The Predator is about 385HP.
8shot 05-11-2005, 08:16 PM Talked to dealer, they said definite problem. Going to take it in tues. Got to put cat back on , take off finger stick and plate. hope they don't think the trans shifts funny.
McRat 05-11-2005, 08:23 PM Hmmm... I'd leave the cat off, finger stick on, and plate. It's a mechanical fuel problem, unrelated to those items. They probably won't even notice they are there.
8shot 05-11-2005, 09:50 PM I would rather be safer than sorry. I have talked to this guy before he is either very anal or a true blue company man. He will probly say something about guages and the larger exaust. Taking it to classic chev. any dealings with them?

They took our 1 month old vette on a 50 mile joy ride after been told not to drive it at least 3 times  The work they where to do did not require a test driveCensored
8shot 05-11-2005, 10:51 PM Very un cool. Will check milage before and after. Thanks for heads up.
shelden27 05-15-2005, 09:35 AM P0101 Is A Mass Air Flow Sensor Performance Code Usally Caused By K&n Airfilter And Oi Getting On Sensor Not Covered Under Warrenty I You Have A K&n Air Filter Or Yhat Type Of Filter
8shot 05-15-2005, 10:39 AM Stock filter, not worried about the 0101 code. Fuel return line is why i am taking it in. Will let you all know after tues.
8shot 05-17-2005, 03:47 PM Update on fuel issue. Dealer said balance rate on injectors was good. They are going to replace the entire fuel rail. They are not sure if it is necessary, but since there is a superceded replacement part they want to change it.
