How hard is it to remove my stock PMD? or should I bring it into the dealer?

I still have to order the 74" harness from healthdiesel.

Sound's like your going to remote mount the PMD Crowne.I left mine on the pump and bought another for my remote mount, that way the one on the pump can be a back-up.Easier to plug-in than remove.

Sub5>Thanks for the idea.I might do just that. Is the stock harness easy to get at on my 98 ?

Have to remove the intake manifold, then its just two ¼" nuts on the back of the pump.

I'm confused TDG isn't the PMD, (black box) on side of IP right ??

4 torx screws mount it to the side of the IP, a PITA to get at on 97+ with dual thermostats even with upper intake off

Better off IMO to buy complete PMD/cooler & long harness form Heath, that way you will also get warranty, if one on engine IP is still okay, leave in place for an emergency spare just on off chance Heath one craps out, and you need a new one

Is the stock harness easy to get at on my 98 ?This is what I was referring to, yes the PMD is a PITA, but the harness is quite simple to replace.

I never had to remove the manifold to unplug PMD on my 6.5 and it has the dual stat's etc same as 98'.

Does the extension plug in where the stock PMD does or connect directly to the FSOL?
Unplugging/plugging in the PMD is quite possible in stock location. But the manifold has to come off to get at the terminals on the solenoid.

I take it that Crowne is just remote mounting the PMD so he would just have to un-plug it to connect to the new harness extension not?

I assume it would depend on the extension he is using.

It's the 74" long harness from Healthdiesel.

I was looking to remote mount a used PMD, But at the same time I don't want to cause more problems. Warranty is a big thing for me.

Since warranty is a big thing for you, definitely leave your existing pmd on the pump. Then remote mount one someplace reachable using your 74" extension and where it's easily accessible.

When you have to go in for warranty work, just unplug the remote mount and extension, and reconnect to the pmd on the pump.

How many miles on the truck now, warranty may be a dead issue already, also rather than a used PMD remote mounted since warranty is a big deal with you as you say, go with the Heath remote, new PMD/FSD which is warrantied for 7yrs after you install it regardless how many current miles on your truck, it's plug & play and can be easily removed/installed without removing factory IP mounted PMD.

Turbine Doc>137,000 KM's

The Heath remote, new PMD/FSD which is warrantied for 7yrs sounds good to me.

Since where taking warranty, what's the GM warranty on a new PMD at the dealer?

11yr 120K miles or 193Km IIRC so you are still in window for GM replacement, but before going there you need all your ducks in a row, many dealers will try to "fix" everything else before honoring warranty, and trying to find ways to put the fail off on something you did or failed to do, like clean fuel tank/fuel, bad lift pump, or crud in filter,

Test lift pump output witha a gage 1st , put in new filter and clean any sediment from the filter bowl so they don't have reason to say tank need dropped.
