: Edge Evo
theunderlord 07-10-2009, 01:28 PM Has anyone messed with the tire size settings?
results, impressions, thoughts?
The manual says don't go over 2900, or else you might have abs issues, I'm just north of 2800.
TeddyBear 07-10-2009, 01:47 PM What do you mean by 2900 and 2800?
theunderlord 07-10-2009, 02:03 PM mm circumference.
Step 1 = width*aspect ratio*.02
Step 2 = rim size(inches)*25.4
Step 3 = add step 1 and 2
Step 4 = multiply step 3 with 3.1416
so in my case
325*60*.02=390
20*25.4=508
390+508=898
898*3.1416=2821.15
the manual says: "setting the tire size larger than 2900mm may result in ABS codes."
I was just wondering if anyone has changed the tire size with the Evo and what results they've had or noticed with the speedo & shifting.
D/AChris 07-10-2009, 04:21 PM I haven't had a chance to really test it, just installed it on my truck today. But up to 45 mph the shifting with the setting of 2630mm (33") was earlier than before I changed it at stock tire size, mine had 245's stock. I know with my Quad, there was a definite difference of when it shifted driving and towing. I set my Quad to 32.5" tall tire, my GPS and speedo were spot on at that height, @ 33" tall I was off about 1-2mph, depending on how fast I was traveling. I'll have to check the Edge out with the GPS on and compare. Chris
dmaxhd 07-10-2009, 04:30 PM I am just entering in the actual tire size 285\55\20
I have verified with GPS and it is dead on when I use the true tire size
CRASHNBURN 07-10-2009, 04:41 PM I either enter it as 285/70/r17 or I put the tire height in 32.7"
I think he is having the problem since his tires are much larger then ours.

partially.
I really don't care about my speedo being off, since when I put my US Speedo Red Gauge Overlay on, I totally messed up where the needle goes on the speedo anyway... So with 35's, my speedo is actually pretty close, I've done some side by side test on the freeway with a friends car doing 60 mph...
this is what the manual says verbatim:
"If you have changed your tires to a different size the PCM will miscalculate vehicle speed which can effect shifting as well as the spedomter. Correcting the tire size will allow the PCM to accurately calculate vehicle speed and odometer readings."
I'm looking to see what if anyone else has been down this road before..
if a mod could change the title to "edge evo tire settings" that might help me out...

I put mine originally as the P metric size of 295/70/17 and on our first camping trip, the wife was behind me in our 2003 Camry and while I was doing 65, she said I was doing 69. I thought perhaps it was messed up and redid it with the 33.2" inch size and the P Metric during the custom stage of the programming and still seems to be different. I'm wondering if her speedo is off or mine, I need to have a 3rd party pace me I guess.
You only need to do one or the other, right?
theunderlord 07-10-2009, 06:15 PM Hmm, K, thanks for the input. did the truck drive any different?

Right, I understand.. Shift points are more important... Did you just try to get it close & see how it shifts? I can not remember how height you can set it with tire size, but you could find out how tall your tires are & then just enter it that way.. I put in 32.7" & then mine worked great.. My mileage was off & then I figured out that my tires are not the same size as a 285/70/r17. Different brands are different.. I know you are different since you have a bigger tire... I have heard of other guys having the abs problem, but not with the race tuner... Hopefully they will chime in.
D/AChris 07-11-2009, 05:28 PM Just as Crash stated, different brands, "same" size, but they are all just close measurements. My 33" tall tires are not 33", closer to 32.5", now that I've worn them down. The 245's shift into 6th gear at 56mph, the 295's would be closer to 58-59mph, changing the height to 32.75" has corrected the issue, shifts back at 56mph now. Not sure that helps you at all, but if you can get your 35's to shift into 6th gear around 56mph, you should be good on the shift part. Chris
jasonmpt 07-12-2009, 10:43 AM On my LBZ with 37in tires my RPM numbers were just slightly less than 2900RPM and I still once in awhile and every time I towed through an ABS/Brake light which I could not clear on the Evo without pulling over and cycling the key on/off.
theunderlord 07-15-2009, 01:23 PM Thanks for the help guys. I'll give it a try and report back.
