I'm looking to buy some new tires for my truck. BUT I want to get some that are fairly inexpensive, but has a good load rating.
I need to know what would be the minimum load rating (and all that other stuff )that is safe to go with and also what sizes would be good to consider.
Right now I have Michelin LTX LT265/75R16 on my truck.
Thanks guys

Elky,

I did a bunch of reading and research and I went with the Bridgestone Dueller AT Revo's in 265/75/16 load range E. I wanted D's but Costco wouldn't put anything other than E's on it.

I absolutely love the Revos. They have a nice quiet ride and I have already used them in the rain and snow and I am very impressed with their performance. Switching to the Revos was hard for me because I have run BFG AT/TA's on most all my rigs I have ever owned.

Do you think of load range of C would be ok??

Don't put C's on it, not enough ply's or load rating. E's handle almost 1000lbs more per tire, that's a huge difference. I'd stick with E's if your doing any towing, and D's if your not. 265's load range D have nearly the same load ratings as the stock 245 E's, and should ride better due to less ply's and less PSI.

Today I called lots of tire shops... I got some guys that knew what they were talking about and some that didn't.
One tire shop told me because its a diesel and cuz I do some pulling he wouldn't put anything less than a 10 ply on my truck.
And a different shop i talked to said not to use anything under a 8 ply.
And yet a different shop i talked to said i could even use a 6 ply, and how they put a passenger 4 ply tire on a 1 ton van and how it worked no problems.. and that the warranteed all there tires they sold and if for some reason i had a problem they'd replace it.

I like the reply of the last shop..):h I'm sure thier insurance carrier is unaware of that policy, or they'd be dropped right quick.

that last shop is a large chain store as well, actually all 3 of those places where large franchise stores.

I'd go with 8ply (D range) minimum... You might be able to 'get away' with 6 plys (C range) but why would you want to 'get away' with something so important?

My mid size SUV (1990 toyota 4runner GVWR 5500lbs) has C range BFG's on it and I will NEVER go back to a spongy arse 4ply standard tire like it came equipped with.

Since you only have a half ton I think that C's would be fine. We ran C's on Our half-Ton Suburban and did some towing with it and they were plenty strong enough. I run D's on my rig and only run them at half of their max pressure.

Just my $.02
