Let's hear what everyone carries around with them in the toolbox. What do you all feel the perfect 6.5L traveling tool kit should have in it? What hand tools, common side of the road replacement parts etc...

Just curious as i plan to put some miles on the Old 94 this summer and would love to be prepared.

I'll start it off by saying the obvious things that I have already:

Good set of Screwdrivers
Metric and SAE wrenches/sockets
Fire Extinguisher

Tow rope :( (just in case)

Too much to list and it's always the one thing at home that I could use.

just a few items:
air tools, air sockets, breaker bar, flatbar, various wrenches, sockets and screwdrivers and bits, brake key, axle nut socket, PMD in glove box, telescoping magnet, electrical repair kit, DVOM and sometimes my laptop scanner. I also carry ~1 gal of spare oil, 1 gal of tranny fluid, 2-4 gal of water, mechanics hand soap and a set of clothes to wear if I have to get real dirty.

A Duramax/Allison with a large car trailer behind it with a winch to pull on the dead 6.5. Before anybody really flames me, I still own 2, and if you read my signature, you'll see I have paid my 6.2 and 6.5 dues, and have a lot of experience. D/A 's (2 of them) have been the least trouble trucks I have owned since my new 1978 Ford Supercab 4X4 which I promptly put a 460 industrial motor in. Never broke down in 100,000 miles of Baja and the Nevada desert until the brakes failed on a power line road at high speed and I rolled it 800' down a canyon - not much left of it.

Man i have a gull wing tool box packed full, missing the PMD. I also carry a floor jack and bottle jack, tire repair kit, can of tire inflate stuff, air compressor, 18" & 24" pipe wrench's, 2 tow ropes in case i can't get to you cause your way out there, shovel, wire strippers, 3 flash lights, 2 cresent wrenches and a partridge in a pear tree...

Don't have to carry extra fuel, i have a 160 ltr slip tank under the tool box.

My toolbox (and stereo) were stolen out of the mall parking lot...so I'm starting all over, except for the tools I keep at the shop. Otherwise, i have a couple PMDs and a WG solenoid under the seat.
The wife was even parked in 'mothers with infants' parking when it got broken into!
Obviously, the thief needed the tools worse than I do...How low can a person go??

1qt of fuel treatment, gallon of oil, fuel filter, oil filter, 12'x16' tarp, wool blanket, 2 flashlights, fire log, .357 revolver (lockbox under drivers seat), cellphone, small toolbox with assorted wrenches and sockets.

That's pretty much it, I usually throw in some extra gloves, a hat, boots and a small propane catalytic heater during the winter, but take them out in the summer.

Almost forgot---a whole lot of bungee cords.

Huge assortment of tools, not for the 6.5 but for the other machinery I work on all over 2 Provinces, 3 States. How about latex type rubber gloves. Excellent for keeping your hands clean, coveralls of course.

Serpintine belt, fuel filter, DMM (better than a test light or ohm meter ;) ), wrench set, 5 gal of diesel, 1 gal oil, 4 sets of hunting clothes including winter wear. (Like we need winter wear here in florida since the temp is ALWAYS dropping below zero...LOL)

Oh yeah and a cell phone and soon to be PMD.

oh wait you said 'ultimate 6.5 tool kit'

Well in that case it would be a Toyota Hino Flatbed wrecker to haul the dead 6.5...:D The domestics still have a loooooong ways to go to catch up to toyota and nissan for longevity and dependability much less build quality.

:offtopic:
I'll hafta differ with you on that one. My folks have a new Nissan and it is a pile of junk, they bought it to tow a trailer with, they're lucky it pulls itself out of the yard.:D By the way they are looking to unload it so if you know anyone else that thinks they are the best let me know.
