I posted the following thread on 5-27-09. Since then two others have replied having expierenced the same problem. Has anyone else had any kind of a similar expierence? Dealerships can't help.

I just experienced a strange noise this weekend. I was towing my camper and had the tow/haul on to help slow down while coming down mountain roads in northern PA. Right as the truck was about to stop i heard a loud winning kind of noise. I noticed the noise was much louder the last second before the RPMs dropped and the brakes had to stop the vehicle on their own right at a stop light/stop sign. I could feel a slight vibration through the brake petal. But the noise stopped as soon as the RPM's dropped to idel and the brakes took over.
I did a search and found several references to the hydroboost and the powersteering pump. The PS fluid level is fine and there are no leaks as far as I can see. The noise was very similar to a PS pump that is sucking air (low on fluid) Once in a while over the past couple of weeks the power steering seems to struggle a little. I thought it might be low on fluid but that is not the case.
Could it be the hydroboost? How can I tell for sure?
