I have an 02 CCSB with the aluminum driveshaft, i am running a Hot Juice w/ additude, should i start to look into another driveshaft or am i just paranoid.

your paranoid, wouldnt worry about it. With your Hot Juice/Attitude I would worry more about the tranny. Try to keep it out of the higher powerlevels to avoid frying your allison.

Have been wondering about the driveshaft/ujoint integrity myself as that wouldn't be a pretty site if the driveline let go. I'm more interested in the best ujoints to go with. I know solids are the way to go but not sure if there is a particular "known" strongest ujoint, etc. I would like to know what Tomac runs on his truck since it looks like he has "bullet proofed" his drivetrain for pulling .... driveline loops, bellhousing blanket, etc.

i have the tranny and converter done so i am not really worried at all about that, just a little worried about the shaft/joints.

Wonder if anyone has ever broken one? Probably have to have a lift and huge tires to do it. I bet with that Cognito 10-12' Lift kit, some 40' Mudders, and a chip maybe you could do it. But without a lift, I doubt it. That is a huge driveshaft, even though its aluminum

Thats a funny icon, you got there...

worry about it when you throw the driveshaft thru the floor, but that will most likely be from failed u-joints

Driveshafts generally do not fail unless there is a problem such as excessive rust (over the years), or a ding, dent, knick, poor weld, etc (stress fracture). I have seen a few shafts twist (but it is usually an old shaft or one stolen out of a half ton pickup and fit in a 1-ton with bastard u-joints), but usually a u-joint is the cause of a driveshaft failure. The shaft generally takes a beating if it happens, but the joint and/or yoke are the root cause. Adding a lift does nothing to the driveshaft itself, but it does put more angular stress on the u-joint which will cause it to wear/fail faster...

Most guys around here run non-greasable (sealed) Spicers. FWIW

I seen a X-cab short bed twist a driveshaft into 2 pieces. A truck pullin event + running BIG power. Kennedy and BMDMAX were there also.....Jim Falls, Labor day weekend.

I would say if you go over the 500HP mark start thinking about driveshafts if you are pullin'. I don't think drag racing is as hard on the trucks as pullin' sleds.

I know Kennedy twisted a drive shaft up pretty good..... Pics were posted.....

Can't seem to find the post.....

I'm not so sure if its all about the power as much as the situation. We've been to a lot of truck pulls and (knock on wood) haven't broke much. One driveshaft break, but I blamed that on a downshift that put the split-second of slack in the drivetrain on a HARD pull and then boom! two piece steel driveshaft! Haven't broke one since.

If you think about it by adding the driveline loops would help prevent alot of damage if the u-joints/shaft were to come apart.
I figure these two items are alot cheaper and easier to change out then a pumpkin gear or tranny/transfer case.
There has to be a weak link in the system somewhere for the extra power we add to these things and I would rather change those two out.

Mine came with a steal drive line, I wonder why I didn't get the aluminum one. Oh well I wonder if it is stronger, the tube diameter is smaller than the aluminum ones.

I Would Look Into A New Driveshaft For Sure

I Mean U Joints , I Had My U Joints Wear Down And My Driveshaft Disconnected . Most Of The Time The Only Way To Mess Up A Driveshaft Is By Failed U Joints And The Driveshaft Hitting Your Truck And The Concrete. It Happened To Me A Month Ago And It Cost $460 .

i have wondered why nobody makes driveshaft loops yet, i agree that they will save you on a damage bill if a u-joint blows out
