I am moving to Alabama from Michigan next week and am having a tough time finding a rental company that rents either a trailer or a dolly that is big enough for my 03 duramax behind a moving truck. Anyone have any ideas? The lady at U-haul recommend a flatbed tow truck, can only imagine that is about another $1000 or better tow bill...

Go to http://http://www.uship.com/ and you can find somebody to haul it for you.

You could try to rent one of those tow bars motor homes use to tow cars on all 4 wheels. Or buy one then Ebay it.

It would be cheaper to leave the truck behind, then fly back and get her.

PM me if you want and I'll give you a # of a guy I've used several times to transport for me. He runs from Dallas to Detroit weekly and was charging me like $600-650 from Dallas to here.

You don't want to tow with the drive wheels on the ground on an automatic..........at least not without it running and the pump in the trans running. It's a big towing No No. It'll burn up a trans.

Take off the driveshaft and/or put the transfer case in neutral. Our manual outlines how to do it.

How does that work with all four tires pointing straight when you turn and such? There's no pivot point then is there?

The front tires will turn as needed.

I have not flat towed my dmax just yet, but I'm scheming on a new Pusher that will convert my dmax into a toad behind the coach.
The manual does show how to put the tcase in the N position.
I'm about to bug this member for a little advice, so hopefully he doesn't mind me pimping him out, but DP member floriduramax1 is a RV repair guy and flat tows his dmax on a weekly basis behind motorhomes. It's his comments on threads I've read that have made me confident I can tow mine behind the rig we'd be getting.
You would need to purchase the tow bar equipment of course.
PM him if you're curious, sure he'd be willing to help.

I just noticed this thread...after the PM of course..lol. Yes I use all Blue OX equipment. The (now) Aventa LX and Blue OX brackets that take place of your tow hooks. The manual outlines how to put the tranny in neutral which works most of the time. I have just got in the habit of putting the tranny in neutral first because it can be in a bind and the actuator cant shift into neutral. After I get the transfer case in neutral, I put the tranny back in park. This prevents any chance of the tranny output shaft spinning while towing. I then pull the key out and lock the doors. I set a lot of GM vehicles up and they tow perfectly. I have a 2009 H2 LE in silver ice in the shop right now setting up for tow.

BTW...I run 4 conducter rubber jacketed cable to rear, remove tail lights and drill holes to install separate receptacles for the bulbs.

I know a fella who put his 79 Ford F-150 inside the Hertz truck and brought it here to NY from California. He loaded the truck full, drove it in off a loading dock and then loaded the rest of his belongings around the truck. The Ford did have some wear marks on it though from item rubbing on it during the trip.

Ask the U-Haul dealer if he has the new Car Hauler. It's rated up to a Suburban. You will be hauling a 2003 Silverado 1500 when you go to rent it. Just give it a try. Family owns a U-Haul agency. A guy rented a new CH and loaded an F-250/350 CC/SB, we saw it later. No issues.

What I would do is buy a big trailer, tow it behind the duramax and sell it up north. It will almost certainly be cheaper all said and done.
