: Vacant DSP5 spot and no high idle?

An easy little trick to putting a high idle in a truck with a DSP5 switch is to go into the first row (0mm3) of the TBIQ (B0727) and put 16 in RPM columns 0rpm-1200rpm. Then put 7 in column 1400rpm. This will cause the truck to idle up to about 1300rpm give or take.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This high idle will not cancel when you hit the brake or put the truck in gear, it's critical to turn DSP5 switch to another setting when you wish to drive the truck so that it doesn't push through the brakes.

Nothing special, but handy on older trucks without high idle,

Nick

would this be a good way to launch a zf? I have heard of people using the high idle to do the same...or e brake launch!

Or you can set rpm up to 1200 until ect reaches what you want and then it will shut off as long as you let it get that warm.

I did that last winter. the problem with ect vs. rpm is that if you have it idle at 1500rpm till say 180* and its really cold and you NEED TO GO in an emergency, you will have a difficult time holding the truck back at stop lights and what not. I guess its more of a saftey issue than a problem.Or you can set rpm up to 1200 until ect reaches what you want and then it will shut off as long as you let it get that warm.

I am looking for more of a launch control for sled pulling/drag racing my zf.

Dylan,

To do what you're looking to do would not be too difficult. I've done something like you described on Darius's LLY ZF6 to get a consistent launch.

If you think about the throttle position you use on the line, you can use the throttle base injection table to put a 'Low TPS rev limit' into the tune so that the truck won't rev past 3xxx RPM when staging, but as soon as you drop the hammer she'll go as high as you like.
