: gauges on a pillar ?????
bjallen 05-09-2005, 10:36 AM Trying this again... A friend of mine just installed a 2 gauge pillar mount in his dodge, but it replaced the factory plastic trim imstead of overlaying it. It looks awesome and was color matched already. Is there anyone making these for the Chevy's?
Mark Craig 05-09-2005, 11:14 AM bjallen,
That is a part that we had done with Gauge Works, they make all of Auto Meters mounts. It is only for the 2003+ Dodge's though. We do have full A pillars for your Duramax in black, that wrap over the stock pillar and look factory. We also have the color matched spray paints to color match it too! Call us if you have any questions etc.

WileE1 05-09-2005, 03:06 PM Hey Mike,
how much is the paint for the interior.....I have the setup but want to paint it first?
Also when you cover the old piece where do the wires go? do you drill a hole in the factory one and runn them through...seems really lame to have this piece rivited on.....figures thedodge would get a whole new piece....
Thanks
bjallen 05-09-2005, 03:32 PM I would pay more for the whole new trim piece. I like my stuff to look sleek. I have never personally seen a full pillar mount in a chevy, but I would think the overlay could not blend in perfectly
DSTRBD 05-09-2005, 04:07 PM The gm overlays do look kinda hokey as they do leave a decent gap on the outside edge of the pillar. VHT makes a paint matched for the interior for about $8/can.
NCMIC 05-09-2005, 05:10 PM my overlay looks pretty good if you ask me. it all is in who installs it. i painted mine and it almost looks as if it came in the original production. my lights work with my dimmer switch as well.
i received my guages and pods from john @ www.kennedydiesel.com
just take your time with the install and it should come out just fine.
lbz492 05-09-2005, 09:52 PM i have a full pillar mount gadges install and i didn't put back in the factory part. it just came to be to much when i was puting it back together. i don't remember where i got it but i got the pillar color matched to the interror and i just put that up there and it looks fine you can see alittle bit of the paint from were the plastic and the moalding doesn't match but it looks fine you are only able to see it if the door is open

All in the installation.

That does look pretty good.:ro)
Just so that I understand correctly, you have the pod over the factory pillar cover right?
I just did mine and I wasn't sure whether I could fit the new pod over the stock. It seems to be pretty tight to route the wires and the pod in the gap between the dash and the stock a pillar. I must be missing something... Right now, I just have the paited 2 gauge Autometer pod, kinda wedged in there. It could be tighter but doesn't look bad. I was wondering how I was going to fix that...
DSTRBD 05-10-2005, 11:01 AM The gap I am talking about is between the left side of the pillar and the weather stripping. Doesnt matter how well the thing is installed, there is still a gap. We have done quite a few of these installs so I do know what I am talking about. Its more of an opinion on what you think looks good rather than how good of an installation it is. Dont get me wrong, it looks decent, but not as good as it should.
Mark Craig 05-10-2005, 06:06 PM WileE1,
The paint is 7.99 and the plastic primer is too! The match on the GM's is very good too. Run your wires between the new pillar and the factory one and then down thru the slot in the dash, you'll see it when you remove the factory A pillar. The Auto Meter A pillars fit well and are a little longer than some of the other brands and hide the outer edge better sometimes too. I have also had customers use doubel stick tape (high temp 3M brand) instead of the push pins, it even makes it more invisible too!
