: What RPM to Launch at?

What is a safe RPM to launch at when drag racing. I put mine in 4 wheel drive an launch at 2000RPM. It sure takes off like a rabbit, but is must be hard on the tranny. What RPM do y'all do?

I'm not sure what RPM I'm leaving at, I usually launch by the feel and sound of the truck. It's usually less than 18psi of boost because that's when my nitrous kicks in. I've only hit the nitrous once comming out of the hole and it wasn't fun!!!

If you wanna run consistant I've heard it's better to watch your boost then the RPM, and I think most guys launch between 15-20 psi.

Hope this helps

As much as your tires will hold. I'm cutting 1.7's, there is more left in her. 5-10 psi. These are on street tires. 20 psi! EEK! Cant imagine that one

Maybe in the 1500-1800 range???

I usually see about 2100 rpm (about 16-18psi) when launching. I have launched at 2500 rpm (about 22-25psi or so with the N2O just kickin in), not very fun though and I do not recommend this for the trucks sake.

When the sound of your teeth gritting drowns out your powerbrake, take off.

Seriously with a stock converter you can build pretty high RPMs, the key is to leave with enough boost but without breaking anything. I leave with about 10-12psi of boost with the TTS triple disk; can't hold it still any higher.

On edit: I don't see any Super Diesel tie-rod sleeves in your sig. You'll be need'n em.

What do the ties rod ends do for the truck?

Look at your tie rods. They look like they belong on a Chevy Geo -:t

All that torque in a 4x4 launch has a tendency to make the front wheels look at each other. The sleeves will make them keep looking forward in the direction you are traveling :cool2: :exactly:

I toasted my C1 clutch last year doing a high boost 4x4 launch (on wet pavement in crappy traffic!). I was running a 3500 4x4 with standard juice (probably on L4). No other changes. No warning either except a slipping clutch and a painful feeling in the left rear pants pocket. Visa loved me though!

I'm kinda old school 4WD, is launching with 4WD on pavement okay for these rigs? I tried cuttin' loose at about 1,500 rpm and couldn't hook up for squat and had to back off.
Not that I do this all the time, but when the occaisional opportunity presents itself to blow the doors off some dork, I was wondering if this is okay or will I end up dumping tons of dough into a transfer case rebuild and upgrade.

Do as we say not as we do.;) Dont do it, its probably not good on things:rolleyes: ;)

But they seem to live.

Front end parts would be my worry before a transfer case.
