I ran into a guy this weekend with a 6.5l suburban (rare for me) and he said he loved his 95 and that he had 210,000 miles and just one IP so far. I am inspired.

I've got 187K on the truck and one one replacement pump on GM's dime at 27K.
Couple more PMD/FSD's.

I think that my PMD must have been bad when they replaced the whole IP on warranty 10,000 miles ago. Does the dealer ever replace just the PMD or do they always do the whole IP with PMD attached?

guybb3,

Last year the dealer replaced the PMD only on my uncle's '96 K3500 dually and remote mounted it off the pump. First, though, they told him the whole pump needed to be replaced and the fuel system had to be flushed because the "lining" was coming off the inside of the tank. This dealer was a little dishonest, to say the least.

You should be able to tell by looking at the pump at the Data tag it has a manufacture date on it if it's farly recent they replaced the whole pump. Most of the time they replace the whole shooting match. If you got a whole new pump thats a good thing, the pump itself will go a long time, using a good aditive increases IP and Injector life. Darn stuff pays for itself in more MPG and longer life of Injection system.

A old Nieghbor who is a Truck tech told me that the remote mount is the "fix" Stanadyne has come up with, but I believe he told me it's on the intake?? If so I would move it to a cooler place. I know, I know a number of folks have had good luck on the intake mount with a Beta or other heat sync's, I guess it's ok if your under hood temps don't get as hot as mine did a few years back. INHO I'd move the darn things to cool location.

I got 184,000 miles on mine with only 1 pump so far. I did remote mount my PMD in front of the radiator.

16gaSxS,

I agree. Mine is on my skid plate under the radiator on my '95.

I tried to talk him into putting his there, as well, but he decided otherwise. They traded the truck shortly afterward and bought an '01 2500 HD crew cab, half bed.

I finally got some info on this tale that went around about the fuel system flush from way back when. There was limited truth apparently about the whole fuel system flush. It was "supposed" to be just for 95-96 with the old steel rollers in the IP's. They would pit and contaiminate the system through the return lines. Thereby needing everything cleaned. There wasn't any mention of "lining" in that story.

I tink some either got some details messed up, or just came up with a money making scheme of some sort.

Now, we return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

My local dealer told me the same thing about the whole pump. Said that it would be covered at "No Charge". Said that all I would have to pay was the price it cost to have the fuel system flushed... A MERE $1185!!!!!!!!

Instead I bought a FSD/PMD, installed it in 20 minutes and have not had a problem since.

The days of taking a vehicle to the dealer for service are LONG GONE folks!
