Went and bough an air filter today because i needed one, and the one that is listed for the 97 airbox is much bigger than the purolator I previously had. Since it fits much tighter in the box, and has next to no room between it and the box, will it be restricting my airflow quite a bit, or what?

there's 2 different ones. One's the HD option which sounds like the filter you got. The airbox doesn't close i'm guessing?

I had this issue when i went to Napa for my air filter. get the "light duty" filter. I've found that Napa's air filters(Wix) are built much better than ones you can get from purolator/fram/etc.

It closes, but its pretty tight. Should I bring it back and get the other one or?

Yes, I looked at the HD and I didn't feel comfortable wedging that in there, but again it's your truck.

Had the same issue when I changed it right after I bought it. It's due for a change next month, should go in a lot easier. :)
