: Miss that diesel smell...

I have a 2002 Dmax. I love the truck.

This weekend my brother bought a 2005. We took it for a drive tonite, and I must admit that I was very impressed with the power. It really moves. I also think that it's a little quieter than my truck.

However, one thing that I noticed when we got back was the lack of diesel smell coming from the exhaust. It really alsmost smells like a gasser coming out of the exhaust.

I didn't realize that EGR and the cat would take that much smell out of the diesel.

Man I think that I would miss that...

That was one of the first things I noticed on my 05. It almost has a sweet odor to it. Not like the diesels of the past.

The general consesus seems to be to kill his cat! Somehow I don't think I'm going to get my brother to do that on a truck that's less than 48 hours old!

Is there no electronic link between the cat and the computer? Gassers have the O2 sensor.

There is no monitering device on our diesels like you may find on a gasser. The only thing the computer will notice is a drop in backpressure, but if you retain the stock muffler it seems to provide enough backpressure to keep the egr happy.
