Truck only has 17k miles on it but a hole in the transmision housing??? My fluid level is good and it shifts nice and smooth. I have to be on the road Monday to get a skidloader in Wisconsin help. :eek:

I think a small sheet metal plate goes there. I will look at mine.

There is no fluid there, its the bell housing.

isn't there a plastic/rubber plug supposed to be there

Yeah, there is a little metal plate that covers it(see pics). I don't think it is a good idea to drive around without one and have all kinds of dirt and stuff getting in there.

You are looking at the torque converter, nothing you can fit through that hole is going to hurt it. The trans is sealed by the input shaft seal and the engine is sealed by the rear main seal. A lot of GM vehicles from the 80's had the whole bottom half of the converter area covered by an ABS plastic shield that would let in just about anything. The sole purpose was to deflect large quantities of water just to keep from warping the hot converter.
