We go to the Outter Banks each year and have to drive on the beach to get to the house. Last year I had(still have) the BFG ATs they did a good job. The tread is getting low and I am wanting to get a set of tires that are good in to the sand. These tires also have to fit on the very sad stock wheels:( , 265s is what I have right now, and would like to keep the same size. I am thinking of going with the BFGs MT, much more aggressive tread.

Thanks for everyones input.

The all terrain are way better then the mud terrain in the sand.

Any wide bald tire will do good in the sand. Mudders dig in too much.

Any case air down to about 25PSI. Will make all the difference.

Paddles rule.

An 8" rim width will enable you to air down the tires without the worry of breaking a bead. This will give you a much wider footprint without going to a larger tire or affecting clearances. Automatic tire deflators (http://www.oasisoffroad.com/) facilitate airing down though airing back up can be a PITA.

Eight inches is actually the minimum width specified for the 265's (though I have never had a problem with the OEM 6.5" rims at normal air pressure).

Eight inch rims look cooler too. ;)

I was under the impression that 7" rims was the minimum recommended by the tire manufactures for a 265. But hey, my kids say I'm wrong all the time. Guess time will answer that one! ):h ):h ):h

I agree with Bronco. At our Sand Mountain trip last year, 5 of us were running 265's. I was the only one to air down to 25psi. Had the largest load (by 2x!) and was the only one that didn't get stuck. Stock rims and 4x on all vehicles. Tire tread was basically the same (my Revo's were the most agressive).

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, we did air down last year and had no problems. I was just looking for a more aggressive tire. The ATs did fine last year....guess I should leave them alone.

I am counting the days till she is on the beach.

Thanks again!
