Hey guys, I got an Alpine mutlimedia system for my car that has DVD navigation. I need to hook up wires to the reverse light, speed sensor, foot brake, parking brake, and Im not sure where the best place to hook onto those wires are. The vehicle is a 1997 Suburban. I guess I can ground out the brake wires so I can watch movies when Im driving, but where are the other two wires? Any help would be great.

what are you going to do here, turn it on with the foot brake, fast forward with the speed sensor, rewind with the reverse light, and shut it of with the parking brake . Charlie

Those wires need to be hooked up for the gps and dvd to properly work. otherwise the picture wont show up.

There should be a fuse somewhere for the reverse lights you can tap into, the speed sensor , should be a wire going to the speedometer, foot brake, should be a switch right above the brake peddle, parking brake ,should be a wire going to the light that says parking brake is on. On a serious note , I do not know why all these wires, reverse wire must be for a back-up camera , if you are installing one, the speed sensor , I guess the gps needs to know how fast you are going, they usually do this internally by the gps signal, the parking brake , I guess the multimedia only works when you are parked. I have no idea why the foot brake. just my thoughts good luck charlie

I just looked up the connections on a IVA-W505 by Alpine, I did not see any connection for a speed sensor. Is this the multimeadia unit you have ? Like the directions said , you only have to use the reverse wire if you are hooking up a back-up camera. The foot peddle wire must be a built in safety so you cannot fool with the navigation while driving and the parking brake wire is a safety so you cannot use the DVD while driving , you will have to step on the parking brake to operate the DVD while stopped. just my thoughts again Charlie Somebody will probably chime in if I am wrong.

The speed sensor wire is for the GPS speed. The foot and parking break wires are so the DVD video wont show up unless you are stopped, but those are easily bypassed. I am not sure why but there is a wire that says to be hooked up to the reverse lights. I just didnt know where the speed sensor wire was so I can tap into it.

Thanks for the link. Although I have an older GM truck I am thinking the principals are the same.
