Change it! Dirty fluid will do more harm than not changing it.
The Transgo kit for your truck requires the trans be dropped. If your going to do that you might as well build it once do it right and be done with it. Of course all that depends on what power if any your running and what you may do in the future with the truck as far as power and add ons.
Jasondt2001 07-03-2009, 12:08 PM It looks like he's got tuners stacked from his signature; on a stock tranny with old fluid.
I hope that babies insured, IMO you're running on borrowed time :D
BTW if the 03 is anything like the damn LBZ de-fuel, when you romp on it and it feels tires light it'll pull power from ya, that might be why you can't light 'em up like you want.
pa32rt 07-04-2009, 12:24 PM Any used vehicle I have ever purchased - I always change all of the fluids. There is no telling when the previous owner REALLY did any of them - if at all. Changing all of the fluids lets you know the status of your parts and also gives you peace of mind - knowing the vehicle has fresh blood in it.
bigandy0305 07-09-2009, 10:36 PM it wont cause the tranny to start slipping cuz of the new detergents

No it won't but it will sure help save the internals having fresh clean fluid.
Caramon 07-10-2009, 12:56 AM Speaking of which, at what mileage should one change the fluid?

Depends on the fluid and type of service, climate. I use the Torque Drive and change every 50k. Change the filter every 15k with my oil changes.

Dane, I want to take this one step further. According to you, with TQ. Dr. in the pan, you change every 50K. On Allison's website I remember reading you could go much farther than that with TES 295 or Amsoil's clone Torque Drive.
Horsehaulin 07-10-2009, 08:15 AM Here is Allison's formerly DEX III intervals:

I have been told by the Allison dealer locally to take my trans service changes on my tow truck to atleast 125K miles before service. I would figure the 1000 series in our trucks can go that or more?

x2, just bought an 02 Grand Prix. Was told all fluids were changed in the past 2K miles. Dropped the tranny pan and the fluid looked as brown as oil! The collant was more of a shade of brown than it should have been too. Did the same when I bought my truck, oil, tranny (with transynd), difs and tcase. Now I know!

Tony,
I do that interval due to the amount of towing I do. 11k lbs 30-40 weekends a year all up hill both ways :D and warm ambient temps here is So Cal, Dirty dusty environments and Amsoil's warranty is 50k on the fluid for severe service conditions. I think I fit that mold for severe service since I like to carry atleast 60 mph up the grades.
