Hi everyone,
I am looking to buy an 02' 2500hd sierra with the d-max, it has 160k kms or 100k miles. I did some reading here and its obvious the problems with the injectors, there always has to be something doesn't it? This truck has seen light use by one owner and was used to trailer a fifth wheel camper once a year from Ontario to Texas, so about 2000miles of towing once per year, and the rest of the miles have been for grocery getting. I have not seen it in person yet but it is coming into the hands of my dealer friend who is good and very trust worthy, he was bringing it in to drive it himself but will sell it to me if I want it. The truck has new injectors. Now my questions are, if it had new injectors, how long can I reasonably expect to get with the new set? And what else can I expect to possibly go wrong with the motor? I know some of the other small problems with the gm truck as I have had 4 of them and overall they are very solid, I am more worried about the engine as I have never owned a D-max. Are the headgaskets that bad? How many miles can one get out of a LB7 engine?
Thanks for the help!

Seen some here with 300,000 but no idea what all maintance done over the years. Who knows on the injectors. Could be 100,000 or could be 10 miles. Pretty much it is said at 100,000 they are just getting broke in. If you get it at a good price I see no problems with common wear and tear items.

I may be able to pick it up for around $12,000 CDN which seems to be a good price for the mileage

That is a good price. When were the injectors done? 02 didn't have bad headgasket issues. Design of hg was changed after 01. Check the transfer case for leaks and get the new design gm fuel filter to protect those new injectors.

Sounds good, is the injector problem being traced back to poor filter design causing fouling or damaged injectors? Or are the injectors just a weak design which leads to premature failure due to wear?
I will be looking at the truck early next week and will let everyone know what its like.

I do not know when they were done, but i think recent.

You can run a vin check on it here, and it should tell you when the injectors were done. If they were done by GM

The original injectors were a bigger issue. The replacement ones improved them.
