When the trucks cold the oil pressure is 60+...once its warm it usually doesn't go above 40 even when its pinned...is that normal or is it low? When warm it only idles at 30...

Normal for these LMMs they have an High volume Low pressure oil pump whitch is weird to me:rolleyes:

The pressure is actually running a little higher but the gauges show low for some reason.
40 psi is about 50 psi on mine.

Fill me in on this if you would...
I was under the impression oil pumps create volume, backpressure or resistance of it going through the small orfices and other oil passages in the motor itself is what creates the pressure.

The clearance between the rod, main and cam bearings is what holds oil pressure, the more clearance the less oil pressure if you get to much clearance you will have a rod knock the oil pump just circulates oil through the motor. For example turn on your water hose and place your thumb over the hose and try to stop the flow of water at the same time slowly increase the clearance between your thumb and the hose the stream of water or pressure will decrease, but you still have the same volume of water coming out the hose The same thing is going on in the motor as the bearings wear over time oil pressure will drop over time.
I hope this info helps:cool:
