Anyone know does the oil come from the pump thru the filter first then to the engine or visa versa?
Seems like FOREVER waiting for that oil filter to fill after and oil change and the oil pressure to come up. What with that sideways filter you cannot pre-fill.
Since it is the oil FLOW between parts that lubricates - FLOW is more important than oil pressure when it comes to wear surfaces life...... But it would make sense to filter it first too....

thru the filter first, you don't want any crap it may pick up to go to the engine. here's a schematic. Has the bypass in it but you can ignore it.

Always sump to filter to engine to sump. :thumb:

Bet if somebody made a 90 degree adapter to get your filter vertical they would sell ........ Like this FoMoCo one........

am I seeing this right? The Dmax oils the cam / lifters first then the mains? Please tell me is not like that.
You can fill it up 1/3 to 1/2 full. That's better than nothing.

That's just a generic drawing right of the Amsoil site......

Wrong, wrong, wrong!
Have you guys ever looked at the bottom end of a dmax? the pickup in the pan has a screen and tube that goes straight to the pump.

Ummm thats what we are talking about! Just because the diagram shown above doesn't show a pump its not relevant for the OP's question. The question is does the oil from the sump go to through the filter before it goes to the the oil passages and the answer is yes. The pick up takes the oil to the pump, from the pump it goes to the filter then goes to lubricate the engine whats wrong about that?

I'm 100% in agreement with DBD393.
From pan, to pickup, to pump, to full-flow filter, to engine supply galleys, to components. Returns via gravity after dumping to atmosphereic pressure at various points of release.
That is about as clear as it can be. :-)
