I'm currently running a '01 Ford 7.3L F-250. I'm thinking about getting another truck, and i'm really liking the GM's 8.1L engine. Just wondering what you guys thought which one was better, or difference number wise?

Why not another diesel? GM's gas motors are nice and powerfull so if you don't want a diesel it is a great motor.

Horse power wise they are pretty close, I believe the 6.0 sits around 325 or so??, and most 8.1's are about 330hp. I believe for a while gm was producing 8.1's that were closer to 340hp, not sure why the went down for a while. Anyway, the big difference is torque obviously. While the 8.1 puts a solid 455lb-ft torque to the ground, the 6.0 blows it away with 575 now I think. All depends on what you do with the rig! I do like the way the 8.1's through you back in the seat RIGHT off the line, no waiting for turbo boost, haha, but 6.0's will get-er-done too.

That's what I noticed also: the throttle response on the 8.1 is immediate (unlike the diesels) and there is no spool up time.

i had a 2003 Crew Cab Dually with a 8.1. that is an awesome motor.put 40k on it. all i can say is if you tow over 77 mph you are going to get single digit gas mileage numbers. but i would definitely recommend that 8.1. its a beast
