Is there a really good reason that GM recommends that you don't use OD while towing? I was on the highway the other day and wanted to see what kind of engine speed I run at in 5th compared to 6th at a little over 60. 2500+ RPM. Ouch, seems kind of counter-intuitive to me.

Oh well, have a good one!!

I have a buddy who drives a dodge 5spd, and dodge told him the reason he kept losing fith gear was because he wasn't downshifting on the hills when he had a big load on. So, I assume the OD gears just aren't quite as beefy as the others?? I personaly always downshift to fifth when towing up a hill, usually the truck can pull the hill in OD (thanks predator  ), but I just like keeping my EGT's down. They drop quite a bit when I'm running at 2700 rpm compared to 1900-2000, so I just assume keep the truck cooler. Plus it sounds a little meaner when passin' a blue oval, hahah.:ro)

IIRC, since OD is not in the main transmission case, it is the weakest gear. Direct (5th in this case) is the strongest, since the power goes direct through the tranny, without any gear reduction.
