i want to hook up my lift pumps different on my truck, and i need to know a engine running power wire that i can hook them up to, or can i hook them up to a ignition on wire. i was thinking if i hooked them up to a ignition on wire, that it would make them run when the motor wasn't running, and i don't know if you could do that or not.

If you hooked them up to a switched 12v wire, they would only see power when the ignition was turned to ACC or running.

so there are only switch on wires to hook up to, and no engine running power wires. i just want to make sure it is ok for the pumps to be running for the little bit the ignition is on before engine actually starts. especially in the winter when the starts can be delayed a little.

I should think that the GM's are the same but if they are? See which cct the factory put the pumps on, ( a start and 2 run ccts?) and run that wire to the coil of a relay and then power the pumps from that it adds min load the the wireing that way.

lift pumps dont come installed from the factory.

you could always add a manual switch inline and still run the power off the key, that way if you wanted to leave the key on for an extended period of time all you do is flip your switch and cut power to the pump.

If you want a hot circuit when the ignition is in the START/RUN only position, that's easy.

In the electrical panel under the parking brake, there's a space in the upper left hand corner. This space for a Packard 280 Series connector has a circuit #739 pinned to the "C" terminal, it's the upper leftmost terminal. Test this pin with a test light for proper circuitry and desired ops status. To tap this lug, you can crimp one end of a 22ga butt end splice to your conductor and slide the other, uncrimped end over the terminal lug. Use this circuit to activate a relay to power your accessory.

This circuit is only hot when the ignition is in the "START" or "RUN" position and is powerless all other times, ie. "ACCY".

Hope this helps.
