I took the top half of the airbox cover off and tossed it aside. Secure the filter with zip-ties. I dont have a pic of it yet but I also cut the grille inbetween the two mounting tabs you see in the pic, to let more air up towards the filter.

For some reason the before pic wont upload, but we know what that looks like. So here is the after pic

I can see the pic. I am wondering how much your hood, bug deflector thingy is blocking air from coming in ? The gap between the hood and grill is already small.

I would caution allowing air to come into the filter from the hood gap, water will fill the filter in heavy rain I think. I left that piece on with the rubber seal and cut a hole through it and the grill so air can be drawn through the grill.
I bet GM found a problem without having the additional piece there, gas vans don't have it and if they could save a nickle by leaving it off they would have

Good point Joey. Yea, I didnt let that trim piece get too far away from the van. I'm pretty sure it will cover up the hole I cut in the top of the grill.

edit:
If you look close at the grill, that line near the bottom of the pic is where the extra trim piece comes out to and covers.

I cut mine the same but I cut on the right more, other side of the grill clip and I cut through that add on flap GM put in there.
You may as well remove the intake silencer while your at it.

Just cut mine up today as well!!! Added and AFE filter while I was at it.

Working on a filter set up right now that will be easy and effective. I do not recommend the AFE filter due to the issues I have had.

The more I look at the grill mod the more I wonder if it is good ? The air blowing through the grill is going right through the cooler/condenser/intercooler/radiator with the aid of the fan. I am thinking by cutting a hole in the top of the grill more air will go that way instead of under the hood to the filter. Now if you build a lil scoop under the hole to direct air upward then I can see a big improvement. Maybe I am thinking too much. But what do I know ? I am just a dumb lil fat heater kid.

i'm not looking at it right now but i thought the hole was in frony of the radiator.

the thought was to make a small scoop without grabbing too much air from the coolers.

if the is any issues with the hole (like joey said maybe water getting sucked in) the plastic trim piece that snaps in under the front of the hood will cover the hole up.

I checked for water the other day and there was none. We got 1.5" of rain in 40 minutes and I was driving in it. I see the reason for the rubber flap is to force air down and through the coolers. Without a scoop I do not see any air going up. The air is most likely to go straight. I need a dyno here at home so I do not have to think so much.

I see your point. Maybe a small piece of metal to force some air up wil help. Either way adding the filter and doing the mod is still a big improvment over stock.

x2 on no water, yet.

couple of times on the highway in the rain

and thats interesting too, no water getting sucked up, so how much air is getting up.

guess a scoop is coming next

does pulling the resonator off the van air ox change the sound of the turbo whistle?

I doubt it seeing how it didnt change the whistle much at all on the pickup version.

my truck seems to have louder and longer whistle. was thinking that might be the difference or copy and paste boost and vane tables
