have a buddy that has a couple of running 6.5 with both mech. and elec. IP's plus extra IP's. IIRC both engines were running and on came out of his 96 with 190 K on it. I told him to get me the cast numbers and exactly what he has and wants for everything. I don't have anywhere to store these extra parts so I can't pick them up for me BUT I thought bout ya guys here. Anyone remotely interested? Let me know if you are and I'll push him to get me the infomation sooner than later. Once I have it I will give those interested his contact info.

I'm interested, I need a complete engine, heads and all. I've got a couple shortblocks, but need the whole tamale. Keep us posted on the casting numbers, I won't touch a 506 with a 20' pole.

If this doesn't work out you might check with The Diesel Depot out of Georgia, they sell used take out from fleets. Here's a Paste from their ad:


"Used 6.5L engines are also available. These are 1993 or newer models, and come with mechanical injection systems intended for naturally aspirated applications. These can be converted for electronic injection systems by substituting your engine front cover, timing set and harmonic balancer. Any of these engines will operate in a turbocharged application when using an appropriately calibrated injection system.

All used engines are cleaned, run on a test stand for approximately 30 minutes, then compression and cooling system pressure checked. All engines must have a minimum of 350 psi compression pressure. All used engines come with a 90 day warranty on parts."

A number of people have bought rebuild from them and have been happy. If you need an engine and bucks are tight and another option over rebuilding is needed this might be a consideration. Just a thought.

OK got somemore info on this engine. It has a casting number with the last 4 as 7141, Came out of a 96 3500 dually, was running with good oil pressure but just shut off n parking lot at work on day (Just 2 hours before being traded for a cummin's) was unable to get started with the elec. IP on it. Manual IP installed and still no starting, Could be pulled started and was driven afterwards. Was pulled for replacement and then found 5 bad glow plugs. Thats kind of where it is now cept that the owner is transfering soon and has lots of loose end to tie up before he leaves in few weeks.
