Hi,

I have an 02 2500HD Duramax/Allison well maintained and used daily for light hauling and general transportation.

Had a leak from around appear a week plus a few days ago from what I think is the shifter input shaft on the drivers side of the tranny and took it to the dealer same day.

Dealer said it was the seal for this shaft and the switch needed to be replaced. They also said they could not just replace the seal so the had to replace the switch, it's shaft and the leaky seal at round $327.00 with $170.00 for the parts...Is this normal or do I have a lemonistic Allison?

What would cause this kind of problem?

Also to those who may know is ther supposed to be a skid plate for the tranny pan as part of the 02' Duramax skid plate package from Chevy?

Any info would save me from climbing under a truck at the dealership to look.

I ask since I was under there looking at the repair and thought I might be missing a skid plate as I didn't recall being able to see the "Allison" stamped into the tranny pan.

Thanks,

BD

If that price includes both filters and fluid change it is fair. Changing the linkage without the special tools requires pulling the valve body. If the dealer has the tool, then it is out of line because it is pretty easy.

My 02 skid plate stops at the back edge of the oil pan.

Thanks for the nod on the skid plate. I think there is no plate for the fluid pan.

Saga still continues.

The tranny was sinking again 2 days after the dealer doing the work had it for 2+ weeks.

The truck has been back there for another 2+ weeks to replace the "selector shaft" as opposed to just the selector shaft seals ( I think ). They also say the drain plug was leaking?

Best of all they want to "credit me" the cost of the original repair towards this bill?
How do I know they didn't make the problem worse?

I thought that in NY mechanics had to redress any parts or labor related to a repair they did within a resonable warantee period?

$360.60 from Jim Smith Cheverolet and they say its fixed...
So that makes a total of around 660 after they refunded the labor, parts and 96.00 fee for diagnostics. Does any of this seem right to anyone considering this is supposed to be a "Heavy Duty" pickup with 50k on it?
