: Surging
k_lou 05-07-2005, 02:57 AM Got a problem with the truck. Engine revs but the tach goes up only only line. Reverse gear is extremly powerful, it moves as if i am steping on the gas hard when i am not. Idle is rough and makes a werid noise seems to get worse as temps increase. When hauling a load, the truck suges even at crusing speed 60mph and accelerating. Sounds like low idle surging and needs a reflash, so i took it to the stealer and they "said they did a reflash, and experienced no low idle surging before and after the reflash" fCensoredk that. drove the truck off the dealer lot surging all the way home. I am thinking that it could be in need of a reflash but they "said" they did it and its printed on the reciept so i guess they can't lie, but i am hoping its not injecotor problems. or is it?
Werid thing is that the reverse gear is extremly powerful at idle.
need help
k_lou 05-09-2005, 01:11 AM So does anybody have any ideas
Reineke 05-09-2005, 01:18 AM Could an injector be stuck open? Have they checked the balance rates?
k_lou 05-09-2005, 03:20 AM Stealer didn't do crap. The just told me GM doesn't know how to fix it
Mike_in_Wisc 05-09-2005, 08:41 AM Stealer didn't do crap. The just told me GM doesn't know how to fix itHopefully there is more than one GM dealer on the island. If you could get with someone else out there with a Predator/scanner do the diag. on the injectors then find a different stealer to work with you. Good luck.
k_lou 05-10-2005, 02:59 PM Took it to the dealer yesterday.... told me they will see what they can do, asked for a loaner truck because i need to haul fish and water everyday, and they gave me a MPV?????? WTF what am i to do with a van? It could be injectors, but if they can't fix it i am gonna ask for a buy back............ so when does the 6spd allison come out?
k_lou 05-11-2005, 05:20 PM any ideas on why the reverse is so strong?
Akila 05-12-2005, 03:34 PM I talked to my friend who is one of the 3 that are authorized to work on the Duramax over here on Kauai. I took mine in, but it had no problems at all:cool2: no need for the reflash or injector repalacement. Coincidentally, he let me know that one of the signs for injector replacement is black smoke. I run Banks, & with it, it has idle surge, as well as the black smoke, so I sent the Banks back for reflash, to cure the idle problem. Since yours is already reflashed, I don't know what to tell you. Where exactly are you? What is your business?
k_lou 05-12-2005, 05:41 PM Hey wasss sup brah. The truck is stock never been touched before, and the dealer said they did a reflash and there is no black smoke so then i guess its not the injectors. The dealer still has the truck and i still have a useless MPV. I am on Oahu, I work in chinatown I haul fish and water around the island to my store. MPV does no good. You know anyone on Kaui with a fish farm? Wow i never new get so many other people with diesels in hawaii
Akila 05-13-2005, 02:11 PM No Fish farms on Kauai, just the Shrimp in Kekaha. Most of us guys, are Commercial ova hea, we go when get bite. Tons of Diesels here.
Aloha
k_lou 05-14-2005, 02:48 AM Ok dealer today tells me its the fuel pump regulator thats cusing the surge, but they can't explain the strong reverse
Do a search on "surging". You will find the problem is common. The fuel regulator will not cure it and the remove and replace can leave you with other problems if the tech working on it is not well trained. GM has told the owners (since summer of 2004) that complained enough, that a cure is being worked on. To date GM has done nothing as the complainers are too few I guess. Like the rest of us, you will have to wait till your next truck then decide on brand and model.
Strong reverse is, in my opinion, is a factor of the over fueling at low throttle positions (surging). Again, learn to live with it. Don't use low range and be prepared to stomp on the brakes or go into neutral before you hit what you are backing up to. You seem to have another one of the LLY trucks that can't be cured. Good luck.
ktmrfs 05-14-2005, 05:31 PM any ideas on why the reverse is so strong?
Reverse gear on the Allison is a VERY deep gear, on the order of 4:1 if I remember correctly. nice for slow backing, but it sure has power!! Most transmissions have a reverse gear that is pretty close to first gear for reduction.
k_lou 05-15-2005, 01:21 PM Dealer said that the surging was caused by the fuel regulator, but then again they say anything. Haven't got the truck back yet so don't know if the problem is cured. The reverse gear suges really hard, its not that its a high gear reduation. Lets see if i got it fixed
Had all that crap done (fuel pressure regulator, 3 injectors, fuel filter, fuel tank cleaned, reflash, etc.), and the same as I bought it. If you have any luck, please post.
k_lou 05-22-2005, 01:35 PM Got the truck back today!!! Works perfectly and feels different now since the reflash. Took 3 weeks to fix becuase the had to ship the part over but its alright I used the loaner truck well.
k_lou 05-25-2005, 12:36 AM they just replaced the fuel pump regulator
LarryJewell 05-25-2005, 08:34 AM i had the surge for a long time......i got rid of the hypertech, added the edge with attitude, predator, blocker plate and finger stick and have not seen the surge in over 5,000 miles.........
snowsdog 05-25-2005, 02:31 PM K-Lou,
Your lucky if it did fixit, could come back in a couple thousand miles as mine did, they gave me the memo from GM saying engineering is working on a fix.
I had it to three different dealers to confirm the proper reflash etc. Filed Lemon against GM 4 weeks ago, as I had it in 8 times for about 20 days, had final repair attempt week and 1/2 ago. Atty. says will be about another week or so to complete the buy back.
Imagine hooking on a 10K lb 5er on the back when it was surging, feels like its going to break something.
Good luck, hope its fixed for good!!!
