If any of you guys are disappointed with how the leather is wearing on your drivers side seat, complain a little to your dealer and refer to the TSB that can be found on this site.

My truck will be a year old tomorrow, and my drivers side seat is showing the typical creases and wear from sliding your a$$ out. I complained to the service manager at my dealer while I had my serpentine belt replaced last week and they ordered a new learther cover. They installed it today and viola, like new! I condition my leather on a weekly basis but just couldn't seem to stay ahead of the creases.

Leather seats,eh? Well good luck! We got a new 95 Yukon with leather seats and that was the worst decision we ever made. There is absolutely NO way to keep the leather seats looking good. (Even though I treated and cleaned the seats on a regular basis). They simply do not last. We got the seat covers replaced under warranty but they wore out again. So now we have leather seats that are all cracked and checked just like you described. I will NEVER get leather again!

By the way, we recently sold our 91 Silverado and the interior looked as good as the day it came off the showroom floor. It was custom cloth, NOT leather.

BlackMaxx,

I'm with you on the quality of the leather. Quess I'll just have to keep going back for new seat covers. My '01 gasser has cloth, truck has 105,000 on her clock and like your Silverado they look great.

Whew, glad I got the cloth... When I was looking at used trucks with 60k miles, the leather was looking bad. So when I ordered my truck, I got cloth. It's nice to see them replacing the leather for you guys who complain about it though.

I got the cloth also for just that reason. Had to jump through flaming hoops with the dealer to get buckets and console with cloth. They couldn't figure out, 'check here and here, not here'.;)

BTW, it's definately the quality, not leather in general. I had an Infinity Q45, and it was 10 years old and the leather looked like new. Course it wasn't sliced with a deli-slicer to get it so thin like GM, either......:o:

The last two new GM trucks I bought...my 2002 GMC Sierra/D/A and my 2003 Chevy Tahoe were both spec's with cloth seats..........

The Dealer kept asking me was I sure..........YUP........I am.

Gm has the porrest quality leather going. For the $1700 extra they get I can put in aftermarket seat heaters and custom leather for about the same money.

The cloth is holding up perfect and I have not bought leather in a GM since my 1991 S10/Blazer-Tahoe LT...........the leather sucked 13 years ago and it still sucks now.

Good Luck to all you guys with leather..........too bad GM cut so many corners.

I see a few wrinkles in my drivers seat already and trucks only a month old. Dear wifes 2000 Blazer still looks pretty good. Might have something to do with the lighter tush that sits in it.):h:muahaha::eek: ;) :p:

The leather will not hold up on the driver side because of the wheel forcing you to go over that outside panel.

I do highly recommend leatherique as way to protect your seats either new or after repair or the rest of the leather. It also helps prevent further damage on that side.

I have tried all the leather stuff out there...this stuff works.

With three kids, I opted for leather on both the HD and the wifes Yukon XL. The stuff they spill is amazing. It seems that they can just look at a soda in the cupholder and it'll magically dump over. I wouldn't mind cloth if it resisted spills and didn't hold in the smell better....

If GM offered the back lumbar support bladder like on the '95 Z71 I had I would have DEFINITELY gone for the cloth. :( Wife wanted leather and I really wanted the back support. I agree the leather is marginal at best.

I have 31k on mine and may complain at 35.5k. Mine could be worse, could be a lot better, too.

Since day one I conditioned and cleaned that leather. I use Griots Garage cleaners and polishes on all my vehicles, in fact my Jap and German cars have leather seats and both have approx. 40K on them and the seats look like new. Like GMC-2002-DMax said, GM's leather quality is poor at best. Shame on them! I don't slide out of the truck either, I use the step bar and stand out of the truck.

RonJT, I'm assuming you use that product. Are you pleased with the results?

It's a sad commentary on our intelligence that we pay a lot extra for leather seats and all we get is leather seating surfaces-- and that's the section that wears out. This problem has gone on for years and GM has yet to address it. If they'd just go ahead and put vinyl everywhere, it would wear great.

But who would pay extra for 'vinyl seats'?

aznap,

I just started using the leatherique stuff..truly amazing. I have not used Griots Garage stuff but it sounds like you are pleased.

They key thing about the leatherique is that you apply the rejuvenator oil on the seats and then let it sit for about two days...hopefully in a sunny environment. You have to use a lot of the oil...but the sauna action causes it to be absorbed and it tightens up the leather..feel like new again. Then use the cleaner right after and for normal bimonthly or so cleaning conditioning.
