Sorry if this is in the wrong section...

Two weeks ago I travelled (off-road) the Western portion of the Mojave Road starting in Afton Canyon. It was 90F. Tomorrow morning I will be venturing to a most inhospitable place - Death Valley. I may visit the Trona Pinnacles, too.

It is going to be very, very hot. It is 8:00pm here in SoCal and the weather reports state it is currently 100F in Trona and 99F in Ridgecrest. The high may reach to 119F during the day. Yes, I will be bringing a lot of water...probably double what is recommended, plus water for the truck in case of overheating.

Now, my truck may be doing a lot of easy to mild off-roading which will be slow-going. More like idling with little air flow over the radiator. How do these trucks fare in extreme heat like that? I am an experienced off-roader, but have never really had the truck in any type of mega-heat. Any tips? Should I just wait for cooller temps? Thanks.

I've never really done that exact senario but close, towing a toy hauler in the desert during the extreme heat and going slow for periods of time to get to campsites that are off dirt roads in the middle of nowhere. I would say it should not have any issues even with a/c cranking going slow.. Just watch your temp gauge. As of today i've had no overheating issues what so ever and its been ran hard and in the Nevada summer at the lake with it idleing and the air crankin. I thought that was part of what the truck was built for..:ro)
