Well I seem to have a problem. I have searched and found everything except what I need to know. I started having a loose steering wheel the other day. I fixed my shaft problem a while ago. This is not the same thing. I can actually take my steering wheel and move it side to side and up and down. I took it apart using some of the helpful links on this site. I took the airbag out, steering wheel, and coil. Now what?? Is there a bearing in there that can be changed? Or is it the top part of the shaft that needs to be replaced. I know the problems are always the lower shaft. Any help would be apreciated. I need this fixed ASAP. I have everything apart now ... I can put back together but would rather not. Thanks

there is definitely a bearing assembly at the top. My steering wheel came with a loose one from the factory and it drove me nuts for 3 months before I finally found a service manager at another dealership who knew exactly what the issue was. It was about $350 for the bearing but I didn't have to pay for it.

How are your hydraboost lines and housing? Any leaks or weeping fluid? I ask because my buddy had the same steering symptoms as you mentioned and chased the problem a lot like you have (removed steering components, air bag, etc.), then when he was out of state for a job, his wife brought the truck to the dealer service center and they replaced his hydroboost system on warranty and all of the steering issues were resolved. Just another thing to check.
