: Blowing intake tube off

During a heavy pull up a10º+ grade I blew off the intake tube on the driver’s side of the engine. I reinserted the hose and tightened the clamp, couple miles later it blew off again. I was holding it about 50 mph. This tube comes from the base of the radiator (?) and goes up to the turbo, I think. Do not have a schematic of turbo system. Got the truck used so do not know if I have the correct clamp. I have a flat clamp that I tighten with a ½” wrench. Alum intake tube looks stock. Babied the truck home trying not to use too much turbo boost.

Make sure and get all the oil off the inside of the boot and where it mates to the intake. Slip it on and crank the *(&*( out of the clamp.

Forgot to add......any programmer adding ungodly amounts of boost??

Welcome to DP. Please take a minute to fill out your signature (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/profile.php?do=editsignature) with Year Model and any Mods that you know of.

Do a search for "hairspray" , it's the miricle cure for you problem. I'd also recommend a PCV re-route to stop the oil build up that is causing the tube to become slick and blow out time and time again.

And to answer your other question, yes, it sounds like you described the correct clamp. Clean the boot and intercooler tube real well, and hit it with hairspray, it probably won't come off again. (mine didn't after that)

And by the way, welcome.

“HAIRSPRAY”? Welll O.K. How about contact cement, spray type?

How do I “Do a search for "hairspray"? Being new I can not find the SEARCH window.

“Forgot to add......any programmer adding ungodly amounts of boost??” Had the boost set to level 3. After the second blow off I put it back to stock.

Welcome. Search is top right. Right above the '1' in your first post, go to the main screen and its in the same location. Hairspray works, that way you CAN get it off if you need too. Cement will make that more difficult.

Yep, just as they said, actual hairspray. I stole it from my wife and she got kinda pissed off  Apparently once you use something to fix a truck, it's no longer any good for what it was intended to be used for :confuzeld. She told me to keep that can in my toolbox and went and bought a new can. :banghead:
Also, hairspray is cheaper than the spray adhesive, unless you have some laying around.

Reroute that PCV and your oil in the intake system will diminish quickly.

The outside of your engine will also stay much cleaner-- (after you clean it) :)

Mine didnt pop all the way off but was working itself that way when I saw it. I found that the hose was incorrectly installed. The ends are marked for which direction they are to be installed. They (the factory) installed ENG to ENG marked on the CAC tube instead of actually on the ENG side. I cleaned it well with some carb parts cleaner and reinstalled it with ENG actually towards the engine and it hasnt budged since.
