I've heard many thoughts about EGTs getting too hot. Is there a magic number/time frame that represents too hot? My 06 LLY got up to 1400F towing up a mountain last weekend. It didn't stay at that temp. very long. Is that too hot?:duh:

I'm no expert but the so called "experts" say that 1350 sustained is OK, and they can get up to 1600 for short bursts. I know I try to stay under 1300, but 1400 does not scare me too much.

This is a topic that has been talked about many times. Aluminum melts at 1250F, so personally I do not hold the temp over that for very long. When doing big long pulls up the mountains is when I really pay attention to the numbers.

.....Aluminum melts at 1250F....

yea but that is just aluminum, not aluminum alloys which i would imagine the engineers at GM would have taken this into consideration
