Anyone know if you can actually call gmpartsdirect? I'm considering ordering a set of injectors from them and would like to find out how they handle core returns/refunds, and if the $305.76 estimated shipping and handleing is actually correct.

Thanks!

that sounds like the price with core and shipping of one single injector to me

I think there is a number you can call. Their shipping is pretty darn expensive. I compare their total price to others on the net and with dealer. Most of the time parts-direct is still cheaper. They give you like 40% off to intice you and then get back about 20% of that from their shipping charge. Well.... what a ya gonna do?

I did end up ordering my injectors and other necessary parts from them today. Read through their FAQ and their business model is that processing and handling pays the fees not only cover the actual shipping but also help to keep up the site. Comparing the final prices per injector, I was still further ahead than anything else I could find.

GM Dealer $350 + tax = $371 each ($2968 for 8)
Local authorized Bosch dealer $248 + tax = $262.88 each ($2103.04 for 8)
GMpartsdirect: $182 + shipping = $220.47 each ($1763.76 for 8)

Pensacola Diesel $1200 bucks plus shipping for a complete set, and they hold off on the core for 30 days, so that will save a few bucks up front.

This is a SORE subject with me right now. I just put a set into my DMAX swap and it appears one is shot and another one is marginal. I've got less than 15 miles on em and I'm having blue smoke which turns into white if you get on it harder, a slight knock when in gear, and POOR performance until it comes up on boost. And to top it all off I'm getting ready to leave for a 3 week trip and have this to come back to.

One catch with gmpartsdirect is that you have to buy in sets of 4.

I considered Pensacola, and had a phone conversation with them about injectors. One of my specific questions was if they used Bosch parts to do the rebuilds, and the answer I received was "Yes".

I placed a call to Bosch and verified that they have not authorized ANYONE to properly test the injector bodies and rebuild them, nor do they sell the parts necessary to do the rebuilds to ANYONE.

Too big of a labor/time investment for me to take a chance on Pensacola or ReadDiesel rebuilts. With GMPartsDirect I'm buying from a GM dealer and the injectors are warrantable at any GM dealer nationwide.

That is the problem with using someone other than Bosch...you are taking a risk.

These injectors have been problematic and yes you could get bad ones from Bosch but I believe you are asking for more trouble going to someone else.

I ordered mine from partszone online. Just a tad cheaper than Gmpartsdirect.

Didn't know about partszoneonline. I'll file that one. Looks like I'd have been hit with $126.53 sales tax, plus shipping, but I didn't set up and account to see what that would be. Looks like about a break even for me. I do need a few pieces for the wifes grocery getter though. May try partszoneonline for that.

Couldn't agree more. This truck has been very good to me and it's still in near perfect condition, and I wanted to put only the best back in it. My local dealer says they have yet to have one come back that they've installed the new GM remans in, and they've done a lot of them, so that made my decision easier as well. The $500 extra would've looked good if I only got a year or two out of the cheap rebuilds and had to do it over.

One thing to keep in mind, which I did not do which I probably should have when I had the thing apart, is to check and set the valve lash.

It seems like that there is a lot of focus on the injectors but I think the valve lash needs to be checked on these trucks. Could mean more carbon build on injectors on a truck that needs adjusting thereby causing shorter liftetime on subsequent injectors.

And folks have driven out of a dealers lot with a "New" Set of Injectors and had problems as well.

As for ALL the injectors out there, they are all pretty much the same, rebuilt/remanufactured, and even though you buy them from GM parts direct, you will pay the labor for the warranty work at any dealer, so what have you gained? The warranty is the same, 12 months unlimited milage, and yes there are some that get installed and are bad, it sucks, but nothing in this world is perfect.

I was just showing another place to purchase injectors, sorry to hear some of you have had problems with them, but I bet there has been problems with any of the suppliers parts, since nothing is perfect.

Actually I found my answer in their FAQ. They specifically state in the gmpartsdirect site not to call the dealership with questions. They run the online site as a seperate entity and correspond by email only.
