: Noise from A/C vent in LMM?
07DuramaxHD 06-24-2009, 04:00 PM I was just wondering if anyone has noticed a funny noise coming any of their A/C vents? I'm getting a clicking-type sound that I'm pretty certain is something vibrating from my center vent, the one that's on the left-hand side of the center that is. My vent only makes this sound when the A/C is turned up to either the 5th or 6th position. It's not that the noise is that big of a deal it's just that with the windows up and the A/C cranked up the clicking type noise is starting to get annoying. I'm debating on taking the truck back into the dealer once again for this but wanted some input from you all first. If it's something minor that I can do I'd prefer to do it myself rather than drive it back to the dealer for something like this.
theunderlord 06-24-2009, 04:38 PM Yup... same thing here. Exactly the same symptoms you describe... center vent, high position.
I don't really worry about it, I just turn it down a notch. I'm out of warranty anyway.. :(
turn up the volume! :D
07DuramaxHD 06-25-2009, 09:24 PM anyone else out there with this problem?
Bow08Tie 06-29-2009, 12:09 AM I had a rattlin' vibration type noise coming from my vent on the left side of the radio. The dial located below the vent that directs the air flow, I moved it all the way to one side and the noise has disappeared.
timoloco 06-29-2009, 12:36 AM nothing like that on mine. interesting
07DuramaxHD 07-01-2009, 02:13 PM I'm gonna have to run my truck back to the dealer anyhow to let them repair a scratch they put in it...while it's up there I'll probably get them to check it out.
theunderlord 07-01-2009, 02:28 PM Kewl, post back if anything comes of it.

I have a fast clicking sound coming from the Passenger side vent....Gets quicker with the increase of air speed...
Any ideas what that could be :(
10-ton 07-03-2009, 07:45 AM Same thing here. Still investigating.

Sounds like the same problem I'm having with my center left-handed vent on my truck.
whtALLIMAX 07-05-2009, 09:04 AM I had the same problem on my 1500, I just scaled it back to about 3/4 way with the shutoff dial. Never did find out what was wrong. Definitely interested in what anyone finds out.

I have the same thing. Sounds like a piece of paper or something is loose and blowing around inside. Let us know if you find a solution
Twiglove 07-06-2009, 05:01 AM Well.... I fixed it....
I had a noise coming from the Passenger side dash vent.
I took out the glove/storage box and had a poke around, there is a square 6" foam thing that when I pushed it, the noise would stop, I pushed it again and felt something catch my hand..
It was the broken end of a zip/cable tie that had somehow got cut in half and the loose end was hitting the fan blade I guess, No Idea what the tie was supposed to be holding, It was three 6" ties attached to each other.
So pulled it out, couldn't see what it was supposed to be holding, noise stopped.
I hope that helps at least one of you, If it does it is an easy fix :D

My truck has 2 glove boxes I guess you would call it. With that being said, did you remove the upper or lower glove box? Also, how hard is it to remove the glove box? I'm going outside after I eat dinner and I'll have to take a look at this and see if it's my problem. If I can't find it tonight I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow and they will check it out for me.
traitor 07-08-2009, 07:14 PM I had the same problem, and like some stated before I ever so slightly adjusted the vent shut off knob until the rattle stopped, it did not take a whole lot of rotation on mine. Some may be different.
bow-tielover 07-08-2009, 08:06 PM Any cures?
I hae the same problem. Sounds like a leaf stuck. I pulled the dash off and didnt notice anything.
07DuramaxHD 07-08-2009, 09:37 PM I should be getting my truck back tomorrow and according to the service consultant there was a bulletin out for the issue. With that being said, I told him that I would appreciate if they printed the bulletin out for me since I had a few friends (fellow Dieselplace members ;) ) that had the same issue with their truck and that I would pass it on along to them. I'll post back with a final update and bulletin information after I get my truck back.
07DuramaxHD 07-10-2009, 07:45 PM Update: The issue I was having with the center left vent had a bulletin out on the problem. The document ID is 2042037 and the # of the bulletin is #PIT4485A . I hope this helps any of you out there who are having the same problem as me. At first when I picked up the truck the vent was making the same sound as when I had dropped it off. After I closed the vent fully and reopened it fully the clicking sound hasn't came back.
LMMKnight 07-10-2009, 10:13 PM I have this too, can anyone post the info for that service bulletin?
07DuramaxHD 07-11-2009, 09:28 AM I have the bulletin printed out. I'd be more than willing to type it out and e-mail it to you if you want. I think that there's someone on here with a connection to give you an actual link to the bulletin where you could see the whole thing, pictures included. Let me know if you can't find someone who can do that for you and I'll type it up and e-mail it to you.
Stevo6754 07-14-2009, 01:18 PM Yeah this is a pretty wide problem, my 09 has it, and everyone I've met with a LMM has it.. It is really random when it happens, seems to have happened more when it was colder outside.
jdub34111 08-01-2009, 12:00 PM Sounds like the same problem I'm having with my center left-handed vent on my truck.
I have the same problem
BigSlow 08-03-2009, 01:34 AM Mine does it also, is there an easy fix or do I need to run it into the dealer?
