MY dealership called and said whenever it gets to 3,000 miles, to bring it in and the first change will be "on them." Well, Id have to take the programmer off, and the EGR Blocker Plate, and since I didnt install either of those, I dont know exactly how to take them off and reset the codes. So i guess ill just change my own oil.

Is it pretty straight forward? How many qts do these trucks take? Any tips/pointers when changing? What oil is best? What filter is best? Just looking for input.........thanks

I run a wix filter from napa and the lb7 takes 10 qt's i imagine it'll be the same for the lly but look in your manual it's like changing your oil in your car pretty easy. Don't forget to fill your filter before you put it back on. dave

Thanks, I was thinking Rotella Oil and a Delco Filter, how's that sound? Guess ill go have to get another oil pan, I dont think my 3 qt pan will hold those 10 qts.......

I haven't installed my mods yet for the same reason... Don't want to remove them for the free oil change. I'm having mine change at 1000 miles, then the goodies go on! I did some research into the filter dilema, the "Napa Gold" filters meet or exceed OEM specs. The Napa filters are about 2/3rds the cost. If you keep all reciepts, write down mileages of maintenaces, etc., GM has to honor it's warranty. Oils etc., I'm still undecided, but I will use dino oil for the first 10,000 miles before switching to synthetics.

if i take it into the dealership to get the oil changed, should I take my programmer off and EGR blocker plate? or not?

Yes! Ohterwise they will make note of it possibly denying your warranty later down the road. People here argue that they can't do it, but what the dealer doesn't know, won't hurt you later!

"Out of sight, out of mind" as the motto goes.

That's exactly what I use. Have had no issues with either.

Yes, remove them! Takes 10 minutes.

Runnin - you might want to order a fumoto before you do your first change as well.....
That, or do a little modification to the skid plate so the oil doesn't fill it

will it hurt anything driving up to the dealership with the blocker plate off?

Do you have the Fingers Stick mod?

fumoto?

Yep..it replaces your drainplug with a valve that makes changing your oil much less of a pita.
most of the vendors here sell them (dmaxallitech, kennedy, etc)
Cost was less than 30 clams.
(I would recommend getting the one with the hose barb on it, this way, you can have the drain pan under the filter and a hose running from the valve to the pan)
Of course, the first oil change you have to deal with the mess
Also, make sure you have a very good oil filter wrench....You won't believe how tight that oil filter is..

What's the cost of the Amsoil oil analysis every 10,000 miles? They advertize the fact that the oil changers want your revisits but fail to mention the money Amsoil collects from you every 10,000 miles for analysis... Besides, if I didn't change my oil regularly, how would my used oil furnace heat my garage?

man, i just dont see why they would run my computer on an oil change, wonder if i should chance it....on anything else id think they would, but just for a plain old oil change? Maybe if i stood back there with them......

I wouldn't run the risk this early in the game... If you were pushing 80-90k miles, then I wouldn't worry or care what they (the dealer), say or think of the mods.

lOOKS TO ME LIKE TYOU LIKE TO DO THINGS THE CORRECT WAY. YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER USING AMSOIL SERIES 3000 OIL AND THEIR DUAL REMOTE FILTER SYSTEM. ONCE THAT IN INSTALLED ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CHANGE THE FULL FLOW FILTER EVERY 7,000 MILES, The by-pass filter generally requires changing ever other full flow filter, whcih would mean every 14,000 miles/1-year, whichever comes first. However, I have determined via oil analysis testing that 14,000 mile change intervals are excessive on the by-pass filters and have extended changes of the by-pass filters on my diesel truck to 20,000 miles/1-year. For severe duty applications and trucks that are subjected to extended idling situations on a regular basis I recommend the 14,000 mile/1-year change interval.

Change your own oil and have fun getting the filter and the drain plug loose.
Most of us that have changed the oil for the first time were either laughing or cussing. Use an impact if you have one to remove the drain plug.
I didnt have access to one and spun my self under the truck. ):h

I've been running the Amsoil Dual Remote bypass oil kit (BMK-17) in my truck for a long time now with excellent results. I do run the Amsoil filters (SDF-26 and BE-100) but I do not run Amsoil oil (mostly Mobil Delvac 1300 Super and Shell Rotella-T). You can see photos of my filters in the PICS link. You can get information on the bypass oil kit from sponsored vendor Greg Landyut www.lubespecialist.com

I installed the Amsoil dual bypass filter system at 10,000 miles. Changed the main filter at 15,000 and plan to change both mail & bypass in about a week at 20,000. I am also running Amsoil's diesel oil. At this time I could almost wipe my dip stick on my hand since the oil is so clean. It is golden colored with just a bit of discolor in the recesses. Install is very straight forward and modifies nothing on the engine. The engine filter is removed and the Amsoil filter plate is screwed on. The hoses then attach to the filter plate. If any thing ever happens I can screw off the plate and install a factory filter. Bottom line, I do not plan to change my oil, just the filters.
