Im tring to help out a friend here... problem is:

1998 6.5 turbo diesel in a 4x4 3500 DRW chevy (or gm cant remember)
If you push on the pedal it will spit and spudder, along with blowing black smoke
It will idle fine.....

replaced the fuel filters
replaced lift pump
replaced cam sensor

It will run fine one day (or a few days) then it will act up and you cant drive it.

Any ideas guys?

Any codes?

Ill ask and find out. can you key them out like on a dodge with the on-off-on-off-on trick? (codes blink the check engine light or say in the odometer spot)

Not on 98, that is OBD-II, need a code scanner or reader whatever you call it.

For 95 and before, you can do it.

My suggestion is to DO the diagnostic checklist on the sticky.

Also tell him to be a member here, it is free and he can get primary information instead of interpreted/secondary information.
