i didnt know where to post this but since i have a 6.2 i figured post it here. i seen a newer diesel in town and when it took off from a stop it belched out a ton of black smoke. why does it do that? i was thinking that was weird a newer diesel would do that and my older one doesnt put out much smoke. isnt that bad for the air we breathe?

They just have a tuner on it that turns up the fuel. Black smoke from a diesel is just unburned fuel

Yes. Some people just don't care.

actually no, the black smoke from the trucks are still safer than the exhaust from any gas car, as funny as that may sound

yea the carbon the diesels hork out gets eaten up by plants the CO that comes out of cars in high amounts and diesels in lower amounts doesnt so thats why diesels are slightly better for the enviroment

"Better" doesn't mean "good." He asked if it was bad for the air; I told him yes, because it is. Relative to other things, diesel exhaust isn't so bad.
Now, when you're putting out a lot of black smoke, that means a lot of ash. Ash is a huge part of smog, so whether it's a bad greenhouse gas or not, diesel exhaust still isn't a 'good' thing.
well bad or not i hate being behind them and my windows are down just doesnt seem good to take a big wiff of that.

No it's certainly not good however it is better than the stuff you can't smell coming out of the big lincoln or dodge charger idling in front of you. As I read somewhere diesel exhaust willmake you sick gas exhaust will kill you.

As a bicyclist I get exposed to all kinds of fun exhaust. My commute is down the trucking lanes parallel to the train tracks. I'm usually about 1-3' from big rigs while riding in the bike lane.
I love the sound of diesels in the morning, just not the smell.
I read that diesel fumes create a stress response in the brain..

Gasser emissions you can't smell but the benzine will give you cancer.
Ford & Dodge diesel exhaust is pretty clean these days unless they stomp on it.
Dump trucks & concrete trucks are NASTY. Semi trucks exhaust is usually high enough that I can ride under it before the carbon falls into my path.
The worst is the trains. They spew eye-burning fumes as the slowly crawl along the grainery tracks. Then there's the grain loading and the wheat-dust choaking the air.
Perhaps I need an air filter mask!

black smoke = overfueling. the truck is probably just tuned. diesel isnt good for you but leaves a smaller carbon footprint that a gas engine.

who cares the enviorment will still be here when you die so live it up. you cant change the world. just because it blows smokes dont mean its broke. :)
