I have the Cognito 4" to 6" lift with 3 1/2" rear blocks. I am installing the UCA kit soon and plan to change to a 4" rear block with air bags.

Problem is, Cognito tells me I can not run a 35" tire with this package.

This is my email to him:

I have a question regarding tire and rim packages.
I am currently running the Cognito 4 – 6” NTB lift with a 3 ½” block in the rear
I have just ordered the Cognito UCA’s and plan to install them next and a 4” rear block with air bags.
Question is, I am trying to figure out if I can run this tire and wheel package without a lot of cutting.
35x12.50x18 Toyo Mud’s
18x9 KMC BLACK Monster's
-12 offset
4.53” backspace
I know it’s going to be close and I don’t mind a little cutting but what do you think?
If not is it possible to get 7” by cranking the t bars and add a larger block. CV problems???

And his reply:

I do not recommend a 35" tire with this kit. It takes a 7" lift to clear a 35" tire.
You will be overpowering the geometry of what the kit is set up for with a 35" tire.
It is not possible to get 7" out of it safely. You need to set the truck up with an index finger gap under the upper control arm. Otherwise you run the risk of bending the arm over the droop stop or breaking balljoints due to constant downward pressure of the suspension trying to pull down on it. This is because on a GM, the travel is limited by the upper arm.
Also, yes CV angles will be terrible.
Even though it will clear the suspension components, I cannot recommend this combo. You will also rub the swaybar at full turn.
Not a good idea.
Thanks.

Cognitos install instructions clearly say, 34.5" x 12.4" tire. Does this mean if the tires actual dinension is in that range It will work. Because some of the 35" tires (Pro Comp) are actually 34.8" thats pretty close.

Anywone running a similer setup? I thought I've seen some on here. What do you guys think?

Nick what tire packages do you install in this lift?

Your tire is to large for the wheel width and back spacing because they stick out to far. The wheel and tire you are looking to run is great for the Cognito 7" but not the 4"-6".

Maybe the email was not as clear on this reason as it could have been. But other wise true.

Not going against NCT or Cognito recommendations at all... but it depends on how much you want to cut things.

I personally run a bigger tire than that on a 20x10 with 4.5 BS with less lift. It doesn't rub 90% of the time, but if I'm turning and stuff the front end it will.

Do you plan to wheel it? If so, get more clearance. If it's 75% street duty you can getaway with a lot more.

Mine never sees trails, just occassional glamis running around, launching a boat, etc so I don't need full travel at lock steering.

35's and leveled baby, have sawzall, will travel. :D

6" lift on 35x12.50 on a x9 wheel with 4.5" bs is probably the most common combo if you would ask me...i think you can fit them with alittle trimming...hell i ran 34x12s on my classic with a 2" crank on x9s with 4.5" bs but i did cut my pinch weld on my fender and had an aftermarket bumper and i was about to put 35x12.50s.

i say go for it! if they rub just cut the pinch weld you can hardly even tell its done if done correctly

Thanks Nick,

What size tire would you run?? I am looking for something a little taller then the Terra Graplers I run now.

Not really, I use the truck for business and like to keep it nice. It's really an eye catcher with my company name on the side.

This is tricky, why because the next question is can you find a "E" rating.

Need to find a tire that is 34" and 11.5" and stay on a wheel that is no more than 9" wide and a 5"-5.25" backspacing.

Like a 295/70/18 E rated if I can find one?

Yes that is what you are looking for. As long as you double check all the combo spec's to make sure it fits in the wheel well perfect you will have little to no trimming and will not need to over crank the front end up and decrease ride quality.
