What is the part number for this? I think mine is bad. Reason: When I fill up and travel @ 120 miles the gauge then shows empty. In a few minutes it shows full. Back and forth. This goes on for @ 40-60 miles. It then resumes and shows me 3/4 of a tank. I posted in the 2500 section and a few other people felt it was the fuel sending unit. If so I want to get it from GMPartsdirect.com Someone said it was @ $285 total. Here the stealer wants $399 for the part.

Thanks

Ben

I am on my fourth one and it still reads in accurately. I am told the TSB on the 03's is high sulfur diesel causes them to foul. The factory original lasted 11 months and I have had three others since. Now I drive 20 miles and you have already used a 1/4 tank. When it hits empty I still have about 7 gallons of fuel based on a 27 gallon tank. You would think for $40K you could get a gas guage that works. Since my truck is still under warranty I am sure I will have it replaced again before it expires. Maybe within the next year they will get it right. Not sure on cost but it requires that the tank be dropped out or bed lifted to one side....Jim

Mine has not "Changed" since new. Maybe the additives we use affects the material in the sender, differently ???

Mine started out just like that. I gradually got worse and now happens with every fill-up.

Drop your tank, pull out the sending unit. Make sure the float still floats. If it does, clean the metal contact strip with some contact cleaner.

There is not much more too it then that!

If you still have problems, call the parts guy at he parts counter, He will tell you the part number and price. I have seen one priced as low as 231.00 on the internet.

Ever think it could be your dash guage or wiring?

The part number on the one that was replaced on my 03 Max is 89060639. I do not know the cost as it was replaced under warranty. I think there is a TSB out for this problem. (Fuel Sender Reading Inaccurate)
Hope this helps!!!

Ben, the 89060641 is for a cab and chassis model (IN other words, a truck that didn't come with a factory bed on it)

the 89060639 is the unit you need http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hope I am not over simplifying here, but what ever happened to calling local parts department with V.I.N. and getting PN and price?

When you get a part that is around the 400.00 dollar mark from GM and 250 secondary you will be close.

I would tell you the number but I seem to have lost my scratch sheet.

Sometimes that works Bronco, and sometimes it doesn't. Some dealership parts personel are instructed not to give out part numbers to customers. (Mainly because of internet companies and ac delco wholesalers)

And, for what its worth, blnagel has the right unit coming ;)
