Last weekend I did a trip and had interesting results with tires. Leaving boise (Thursday, 55degrees) I looked at the trailer tires and thought, they look a little low but want to get on the road. I'll add air at first stop. 50 miles down the road, I blow a tire and the whole tread separates. (no damage to trailer except bent cover on brake wiring box!) I changed out the tire and we drove on to Ontario and had the tire replaced and topped off to 80psi. These are LT235x80R16 Range E. Everything ran much better.

For the return trip, I checked the tires at 68psi cold in the rain at about 60 degrees. Before leaving I insisted we needed to air the tires. I put them to 80 psi and we got on the road. The ride was so rough, it was hard to keep the trailer on the road. Scaled, the trailer comes in at about 14,000 lbs which leaves 11,500 on axles, 5750 per axle or 2800 per tire.

I stopped about 60 miles down the road and checked the pressures. They were up to 85 psi. I lowered them back down to 78 and the trailer rode much better. I've always read you are supposed to check your pressures in the morning when the tires are totally cool. If you start at 80psi in the morning, they will rise above 80 but it is okay since the ratings are a cold pressure. This experience would say going to max psi on cold tires is too much. I think I would rather have warm tires run at 80 psi.

I have 4 Goodyear "G" rated on my trailer, 110psi when fully loaded... no problem after around 100,000km on the trailer. Tires are still 65% good.

Run Goodyear "G's" on my 5 er, 110 psi, no problem. Tire air pressue Should Always be check Cold.

All tires will Add pressure as they warm up. 5 psi will not change The Ride, if all else is OK.

If you run Duals you can "Thump" the tires to check for a low tire, the Tone will tell if the pressure is close to equal, (Tuneing!).

When you run Singles, use your hand to sense the temperature of the tire, (you sould not burn your hand, if they are running that hot something else is wrong). You will know if a tire is under inflated. Yup!

There is a tag on the trailer that specifies the tire size and recommended inflation pressure, and there is a maximun inflation pressure on the tire itself. Tires run underinflated will run hot and possibly fail, but over inflated tires could fail as well. If there are handling issues with properly sized and inflated tires, then the problem is probably not the tires.

Had two separate blowout with carlisle's......Bad, Bad tires that should be banned. Discount tire - you should discontinue these POS.
