: Torsion Bar Unloading Tool
AvalancheRacing 06-19-2009, 12:31 PM Does anyone out there have a torsion bar unloading tool that they would care to loan out for a few days? I would cover your shipping, time, and a few bucks for some beers or something if so. email me, rmhaack@mtu.edu if you can help. thanks.
sledog 06-19-2009, 08:00 PM If you are in good with your dealer, he might loan it out to you.
Duramax in Georgia 06-19-2009, 10:32 PM Also check your local parts stores they may one to loan out too!!
AvalancheRacing 06-20-2009, 06:09 PM checked parts stores everywhere, no luck. I guess thats only in big cities they loan those out, I live in a more "rural" area. Never take the truck into the stealership so that's a deadend for me.
carsluTT 06-20-2009, 09:39 PM i welded up a bracket to use a normal pulley puller for doing my t-bars. ill see if i can find it.
its basically a U-shape that go's over the corss member holding the "keyed" end of the t-bar.
07sporty 06-20-2009, 11:02 PM where are you located
AvalancheRacing 06-21-2009, 06:14 PM located in the UP of Michigan right now. Going to be going back downstate MI around the fourth to my parents for the 4th.
Carslutt- If you can find it, let me know.
I talked with another buddy today and he used a C clamp on his older chev but he said it ended up bending the h*ll out of it.
If anyone has one they want to rent out for a few days, let me know, I'll make it worth your time. Thanks.
Rick98Z 06-22-2009, 07:39 AM Have you checked ebay? I got one shipped for $75 bucks a couple years ago, I would love to help but I loaned mine out and haven't goten it back yet...
jnieberlein 06-22-2009, 08:29 AM If I recall one of the vendors on here would loan you one, for a deposit, I need to find my my receipt so I can tell you who it was, it has been a few years since I "borrowed" mine, he also said that no one had ever returned one. The deposit covered the cost of the tool, i never returned mine either.
Watrdawg 06-22-2009, 08:30 AM Avalanche are you still in Houghton? I was born in Calumet. My dad went to Michigan Tech. I still have family in Calumet and my mothers side is from the Soo. PM me your address and I'll see what I can do. I'll be in the Soo mid July so you can ship it back there and I'll pick it up then.
AvalancheRacing 06-23-2009, 01:58 PM still in Houghton. let me know if you can come up with anything, living in dollar bay with my girlfriend right now, so not sure her address but I'll get it from her.
Watrdawg 06-24-2009, 08:16 AM Shoot me a PM with the address and I'll work it out for you.
moto_209 06-25-2009, 12:02 AM use a 2 hook gear puller. I got mine at napa for $15.
AvalancheRacing 06-25-2009, 09:03 AM Thanks to everyone. My buddy works at a chevy dealer about 2 hours away and I think I am going to go down to his place for a couple days next week so I will just have him snag it from work for a day. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions though.
ockgator 06-25-2009, 10:01 PM NO GEAR PULLERS... I launched one towards my boss' wifes head, unintentionally of course, puller traveled close to 30 FEET from truck
jtaylor11 06-25-2009, 10:09 PM I used a C-clamp to take em out with no problem at all. Putting them back in was a different story though. I tried it with 2 C-clamps and split them. Then we used a 24" pipe wrench and a cheater bar. Glad I didnt waste a $140 for an unloading tool.
ElCamino383ci 06-26-2009, 09:41 PM the tool was def worth the money, once you see how HD it is youd be scared to do it with a C-clamp or any other tool. Did my buddy's 1500 with a big c-clamp and that was enough to convince me to buy the tool for my 2500
KEVINL 06-27-2009, 01:56 AM I just put a jack under the LCA unbolted the shock and upperball joint then let the jack down it takes all the preload out of the torsion bars
